Is Finish Kare going to provide a website to order?

Landcruiser- Yeah, Floyd started it, but I dunno what the original target market was. I always got the impression that he was the black sheep of the family and I kinda liked that.

Enjoying the discussion and I don't mean to hijack it but I have a question for you guys about applying and removing FK-1000p. What process have you found to work best. I just got an order from Leda and have used the Pink Wax and 425 with great success but the 1000p has been a bit of a pain.

I waxed the top of my car (by hand) yesterday with 1000p and found it hard to apply evenly and even harder to remove. I applied with a foam pad at first but it did not seem the best solution. In fact, I ended up applying it with my bare hand/fingers which is something I haven't done in years. I let it dry for about 20 - 30 minutes and removed with a microfiber cloth which worked fine but was a bit of a workout. Any tips would be appreciated.

The shine/gloss on the white top is great but, as advertised, the depth is not impressive. :help:

I apply 1000p with a foam app. Always apply it light, after 30 mins (for me) it came off pretty easy. Since 1000p is pretty hard. I normally take a foam app and place it in the tin, and move it around in a circle a few times until the product covers the pad.

I remember Accumulator mentioning something about spritzing 425 on a pad before applying, or spritz the 1000p helping make the product go on a little easier. Try both methods and see if one works for you.

Now if you apply too much 1000p, it can be a little bit of a pain to remove. Try a 100% cotton towel next time you try to remove 1000p. This worked better for me than microfiber.

Also on white make sure you get all the wax off. I have a white vehicle as well and I kept finding small places ( in different lighting) that I missed because I couldn't see it on white. lol

As far as depth. 1000p isn't really know for depth. 1000p has a depth rating of (4) according to FK. It does take a few days for the 1000p to settle, and then it looks better.

Pink wax, which you can apply over 1000p supposedly has very good depth. PW has a depth rating of (9) on a scale to 10.

Hope this helps.

Makes m think he used the #7 formulation for some products, then tinkered with some other ingredients to make his own (FK) products? The various sealant formulas (218, 2180, 216 etc) confuse me a bit. But, I confuse easily anyway:)

That link really helps. Sounds like I might have applied it too thick but I that's not what I was trying to do. I was trying to get a thin "even" coat but found that difficult. One of the things I did try was spritzing the pad with 425 but that didn't seem to help much. As with most products it takes a time or two to find the key.

I use a moistened foam pad and spread 1000P thin, just enough to see that it covers. Haven't had any problems removing, even on a hot day.

I actually did half my car via hand application with moistened foam pad and still applied it too thick. PITA to remove. I then decided to try to apply via machine. Huge difference! Plus the 4" pads fit perfectly in the 1000p tin.

Try removing 1000p with a 100% cotton towel. Sometimes microfiber cloths won't remove certain products very well.

Just make sure that cotton towel is soft enough not to mar the paint; it can be surprising how even a nice fluffy 100% cotton towel can still cause micromarring. Heh heh, not like we didn't do OK with them before MF came out though.

Yeah, I sometimes use a *LITTLE* Fk425 on the applicator. But I've found that if I apply the FK1000P to the applicator right, it does the "turn liquid" thing a little bit and taht makes things a lot easier. No, it sure doesn't do it the way #16 does, but it *does* thin out jst a little and that can make a diff. Try moving the applicator across the surface of the FK1000P faster but with little pressure.

Having recently done six (not a typo :o ) applications/?layers? of FK1000P to the YukonXL, I can honestly say that it all buffed off *VERY* easily, as in zero problems at all. Not sure why, maybe I just lucked out and stumbled across the right technique right away :nixweiss But then I'm a bit of a fanatic about thin LSP applications, maybe that was it.

Yeah, what did we ever do before microfiber? lol

I can remember using old t-shirts, or old socks for removing wax from my cars. This was a long, long time ago though. :chuckle:

I applied a 2nd coat of FK-1000p to the roof of my car yesterday. I used a 100% cotton pad (foam in the middle) to apply and applied a very very thin coating. In fact, so thin I could hardly see it on the white top. Let it dry and it came off easily with a microfiber. One thing I've noticed is that 1000p gets kinda sticky if you apply too much.

So that's kind of where I am in the learning curve with 1000p. I know I don't have it mastered but I'm pleased with the results and plan to keep working on it. Maybe even with the PC and 4" pad. Also I'll try a dampened pad and see how that goes.

As has been reported/recommended by others, the second coat makes a big difference in the gloss/shine.

I wanted to speak with someone at FK but have not been able to get through. I called them on Tuesday, email on Wednesday and called again on Thursday.

The phone just rings, no machine and no response to my email. I tried both the 800 number and the non 800 number on the fk1usa site.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Just wanted to follow up on my previous posts...After having difficulty finding a vendor to advise me on Finish Kare products, someone at this site directed me to Michael Fortunato - a Finish Kare distributor.

Mike's experience in using the FK products shows when you talk with him. He advised me well in product selection and use. On top of that, he was responsive to all of my inquiries (both email & phone), shipped fast and even called to confirm that I received my order - I recommend him. :2thumbs:

Also, I was well pleased with the FK products (tried a bunch). I was expecting good things from FK425 based on comments I read here on autopia.org but it still surprised me - it really adds the gloss. :wow:
