Interesting Thoughts on CHANGE

we looked at jewelry yesterday but it's very expensive ..how about the AR 15
Actually I'm doing something that I've never set out to do before (scrimping on every decision). I'm building this one on a thin dime. My intent here is to upgrade those parts that really make a difference (barrel, bolt, carrier, sights etc.) and leave the ones that don't (upper and lower receiver, gas systems etc.) alone. My intent is to build a significantly better (performance and reliability) gun than can be purchased over the counter save it be the Wilson Combat's of the world and come in at a price most gunners would not be opposed to paying. I'm shopping very wisely and am not in a hurry but parts that were once readily available are becoming very difficult to obtain since a few months before the change in government. There are a lot of people doing the same thing I am and prices for run of the mill parts are on the rise and availability scarce. I'm on a long waiting list for the barrel I want to put on it. Truth be known the last thing I need is another AR 15 but I really needed something to do with my hands. This convalescing is for the birds. I plan on doing this with a 1911 style pistol once finished with the AR. My kids always call dibbs for the pieces they desire as their inheritance. The two that are home have both spoken for this one.

Steve, what kind of jewelry have you been looking at?

As I read your OP, and the quotes therein, I perceived it to be inviting further discussion of the current perceived direction the new administration, since "change" was a prevailing theme during the campaign. There was no intent on my part to derail your direction.

Hey you've seen me here long enough you know I'm just pulling the chain. :D It's all good by me. I didn't mean to bust your chops, sorry.

Every once in a while, something flies over my head. Looks like this is one of those times.

Didn't hurt my feelings, but didn't want to think I was trying to drive your thread off track. :bigups

A number of AR-15 fans. I don't join in those numbers. For a long gun, give me a shotgun any day. :) Much better utility. If you aren't hunting with it, skeet and trap present a nice hobby or opportunity to improve ones skills.

Never cared for deer hunting either. As a hunter I always preferred birds, dove, quail, and ducks (probably in that order). Pheasant hunting was fun but had to travel farther, and I didn't get enough chances at turkey hunting to get the hang of it.

The utility in any firearm depends entirely on what you intend to be doing. If you're shooting at a 250 yard target (longer or shorter as you desire) the utility of a shotgun is questionable, I haven't found a lot of use for them when the target is 1000 yards down range. I like to trap shoot very much. Good for me I like all guns, I like the cheap ones, the big dollar ones, the ones with pretty walnut stocks and the ones with black plastic, I like shotguns, I like pistols. Takes a pretty bad firearm to disappoint me. I'm a shooter/collector but I'm no hunter or at least not any longer. I had a streak of morality hit me one day about 25 years ago, I have no problem with people hunting when they use the game. I do have personal issues when game is taken simply for the sport but to each their own.

Absolutely understand the shortcomings of a shotgun at the ranges you mention. Luckily, I've never needed to worry with any target outside the range of an IC choked shotgun.

Pistols are nice too, though I don't have much patience for shooting at static targets. Though some of the fast draw competitions look pretty fun. If any of my friends were so inclined, combat shooting also looks interesting, but might be a bit expensive. And since long guns were the topic...(I do try to stay on topic. :D).

And we are in total accord with the whole shooting game simply for sport. I don't have a problem expressing my distaste for such. In fact one of the primary reasons for discontinuing duck hunting (besides getting lazy) is I grew discouraged at the prospect of trying to prepare it in a palatable manner. Kudos to my Wife for braving through all those years of countless methods of preparation without complaint.

I still love the taste of dove and quail, though it has been years since I've hunted. Available habitat in this area is pretty limited, not much sense in adding unnecessary pressure.

When my wife broke her wrist they had to cut off he engagement and wedding ring as her fingers were swelling .. so I told her we could replace the wedding ring as the engagement ring was my grandmother's and that will not be replaced :passout:

Re-read this part and realized the opportunity for misunderstanding. The diminished habitat refers to quail. Dove are still relatively plentiful in this area.

OT: Whatever happened to the EDIT option?
