I found this on another site but found it to be thought provoking.

Norman Mattoon Thomas (Nov 20, 1884 to Dec 19, 1968) was a socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He said this in a 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.! " He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform."

Well his predictions is coming true in 2009.

Interesting. And by the things that are being said in Washington, it seems to be absolutely coming to pass.

The current problems we have is not about socialism. It is about capitalistic greed wrapped around a get rich quick scheme. The credit swaps that poisoned the world financial system with bad loans was not a socialistic blunder. It was less regulated capitalism.

Congress is strongly influenced by industrial lobbyists. This is why we have outrageous health care costs in a supposedly "free" system that is actually well influenced by various health interests. As McCain said, we do not want bureaucrats making health decisions. Hello John..They do now if anyone has a company sponsored plan. Maybe they do not in the Senate.

If it is a welfare system, it is a corporate welfare system (agriiculture, military) with some money tossed to the masses to appease them.

Socialsm is not our real problem. We need term limits and a viable 3rd party system. It will add some more gridlock but maybe it can slow some things down.

No such luck in America today. You have to have big dollars to run a campaign. And to get those dollars you are going to have to commit to follow some sort of agenda.

As for the opportunity for a viable third party, we had an opportunity to support a pretty viable candidate as recently as 2000. Ross Perot. IMO, he should have defeated Bush and perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today.

Who's to say that there isn't real change underway? And who's to say that the change won't be for the betterment of America as a whole? It's been less than 100 days into the new administration. Unfortunately because of the mess left behind, we are primarily focused on sniping at the clean up methods rather than the fact that something is being done in an attempt to improve or remedy the problem. I liken this to being in a lifeboad with a leak. The boat is quickly taking on water, the boat will soon sink and all aboard will drown. You have two types of people in the boat. One group is concerned about the size and shape of the hole, and trying to figure out a formula for the rate of incoming water and exactly how quickly the boat will sink, "the devil is in the details" all the while moaning and whining about whose fault it was that there is a hole in the first place.

The second group is bailing.

Not to be outdone, the first group complains that the group bailing are not using the correct bucket nor are they bailing fast enough.

In 8 years under the previous administration guidance, the federal deficit has grown from @ $18 billion to @ $11 trillion. Where was all the moans and groans of fiscal irresponsibility then?

I am not saying in any way, shape, form or fashion that the current stimulus bill is perfect or even close. But as Americans we need to hope and pray that is works to end the current downward global financial spiral.

And when it comes to this stimulus bill, I certainly didn't see the same flurry of posts when the previous administration put forth such plans. And where were the posting to decry the fact that somehow $18 billion dollars of the banking system bailout found their way into the pockets of executives in the form of perks and bonuses.

There is plenty of room for finger pointing.

I should post some pictures of my new AR 15 parts (building a new carbine), especially the hard chromed bolt carrier (it's beautiful and looks like jewelry). I thought about it but didn't figure it would be as thought provoking. :D

we looked at jewelry yesterday but it's very expensive ..how about the AR 15 :confused:
 
A number of AR-15 fans. I don't join in those numbers. For a long gun, give me a shotgun any day. :) Much better utility. If you aren't hunting with it, skeet and trap present a nice hobby or opportunity to improve ones skills.

Never cared for deer hunting either. As a hunter I always preferred birds, dove, quail, and ducks (probably in that order). Pheasant hunting was fun but had to travel farther, and I didn't get enough chances at turkey hunting to get the hang of it.

As I read your OP, and the quotes therein, I perceived it to be inviting further discussion of the current perceived direction the new administration, since "change" was a prevailing theme during the campaign. There was no intent on my part to derail your direction.
