Inside the new home of Presidential Details!

That is an awesome setup you have, what lights are you using on the walls? I'm using T8 bulbs but whatever you're using look much brighter.

Barry I am just a casual detailer and I have admired your work on here. Congratulations - that is an awesome job. It is nice to see a true great detailer being successful (not one of those dealer hacks).

Congrats on the new space Barry--looks awesome!

I am sure you have all sorts of things going through your mind, it never stops!

As you might remember, I moved into a similar set up last year. A few thoughts...

Definitely epoxy or seal the floor--really cuts down on dust and helps your lighting IMO.

Are the drains connected to the sanitary drain with grease traps? If not, at least in my area, it's not code...

How are you going to separate the wash bay from the detail bay? We used a curtain and it has been wonderful (will post a pic for you tomorrow). This *will* raise the humidity in the shop, so plan on an exhaust fan near the bay, or a dehumidifier.

washer/dryer hook up?

Spent * a lot* on lighting, but I am sure you have this figured out. If you go metal halide be aware of the utility cost as well as the heat they create. We have 10 1000w, plus 4 475w as well a regular fluorescent bulbs and it gets hot fast.

Just some random thoughts....

One more..if you epoxy the floors, BUY A FLOOR SCRUBBER! It's the best machine I ever bought--love it. :D

Did I miss something? What happened to the old place with the partnership you had set up?

I like the new space, glad you're busy and things are going well.

Cheers,

GREG

A thank you to everyone who has replied to the thread. I have been real busy and hadn't had much time to be on here. My apologies. To update everyone. My new shop is performing so well that we haven't had time to bring the shop up to my standards. I having trouble finding time to just relax let alone make the shop look pretty. Im thinking by springtime when the weather gets a little nicer here in pa we can have some fun and make it state of the art. I choose to move to this location because I simply out grew my last spot. I need something a little bigger. Its been tough. In the last three years I went from a small town guy to somewhat of popular detailer. This is my second shop in less then a year and third in 3 years. It really seems everyday I keep growing and adventuring into new aspects of the business. For example at the current time, I have 7 full time employees and 1 parttimer. On average we are doing roughly 40 to 60 cars a week in dealer work plus maintaining a retail front. I have cars coming in from New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and several other states. I have some huge plans for the next year with several new things. Im sorry, but it against forum rules to discuss them. I'm currently getting ready to begin working on some training classes to both the enthusiest and professional detailer. I haven't had time to do any write ups at all. Its just to time consuming. One of the things I plan on doing is giving back to the community who has helped me so much. I currently am working on a few articles on how to. My goal is to keep the articles simply and honest so the everday detailer doesn't fall into the hype of products and forum things. I would like to thank everyone who has me along the way, it was kind of you. I need to get back to work. Have a good one!

What might those be?

Similar to the effects of halogen lights that some folks love to use all the time. UV radiation exposure. Not an issue if you're a casual user of those lights (the odd home-garage project here and there), but for those of us that would use them on a near-daily basis, they cause a huge health risk. Skin cancer is no fun, and I'll use my low-emittance fluorescent lights a hundred times before I turn on a halogen (same goes for my employees).
