Input on Tire Dressing

BlueLibby04:

That tire really looks good. Just the right amount of gloss without the candy coated appearance in my opinion.

How do you all use ArmorAll on the tires? Tire swipe or just foam on? It usually drips when you just spray it on.

i just spray it on (also in the wheel wells) and let it sit for around five to ten minutes (as it dries, it seems to clean the tires as well), and then go back and use a tire swipe and spread it around evenly (don't really need to touch the wheel wells). i sometimes follow up with a light coat of fx tire shine if desired...

Don't get me started on the High Gloss Endurance, personally feel it's a piece of crap that Meguiar's has been raving about since it's so heavy in gloss and as a gel.

Remember to clean tires well with TOL's Tire Cleaner. Adam's VRT & BnB has worked alright but they don't last at all, testing Grape Tire Dressing. I believe Gels are the new wave of good dressing coming out.

Armor All Extreme Gel while it may look great, I have never scene a car that does not get sling with it.

You don't have to put it on thick. Many do since it doesn't look glossy while applying it. The bottle even says that shine will intensify within 5 minutes.

Don't put it on thick. Once the applicator is loaded up, it only takes a thin bead to cover a tire.

Armor All (the regular one) applied with a foam tire swipe is my fave. Cheap, easy to apply, just the right sheen, doesn't sling (after 5-10 minute dry time), lasts through 2 washes.

Everyone has their opinions. Its whatever works for you. :hifive:

Just spray it on. It doesn't stain wheels or anything, so its actually not a big deal if you get on the wheels (IMO). As long as your car isn't slammed, I don't think you'll have a problem with getting the foam on your paint - and even if you do, it wipes off easily with just a QD and MF.

I'll then come back after about 15 minutes and wipe it with my mf towels designated for "dirty" duty.

Now, that's if I use the foam as my final dressing step, which is rare. Usually I like using meg's high endurance gel as well... so, what I do dry the tire (with leaf blower), spray on the foam, them almost immediately wipe it off. Then, I apply tire gel with a generic tire swipe. Seems to work better that way.

I can't stand that meg's crap. It dries up and leaves a rubbery like coating that you have to just about wet sand off and doesn't last long enough.

What's wrong with that. I put gel on the sidewall and also cover one inch of the outside tread

Doesn't affect driving at all.

I think different brands of tires have rubber composition that gives a different look using similar products. What might look good on one tire brand, may look plain with another..

I'm going back to AA probably, might try the Optimum dressing...

Well we have 6 vehicles that I use it on from luxury car, suvs , and sports car, and none get any sling from Armor All Extreme.

I can do 4 large SUV's with one can of 2.67 foam.

Four SUV's per can? That doesn't sound like very much.

There are a lot I haven't tried, but I've had good luck with Mother's FX, Werkstatt Satin Prot, and PB Bold n' Bright. All are fairly matte I think, which I like.

For those of you who have been following this thread...

I was telling my wife about the post that I made for making your own wheel masker(s) out of a circle of cardboard when you're applying spray type tire dressing. When I told her about the handle in the middle to keep it in place she said, "Instead of a handle, why not just cut a hole in the middle of the cardboard and put your hand in it to keep it in place?"

After she mentioned that, I realized that if you need to make these for several different sizes of wheels, they would all lay flat together without the handles sticking out for much more compact storage. What a great idea she had!
