Industrial Fallout!?!?

Defined to me as snowplow fragments, brake dust, etc., mixed with road salt and water.

When splashed on a vehicle is sticks and becomes a little speck of rust.

I drive a white 2007 Ford F150, and I live in western Michigan.

I have been struggling with "industrial fallout" all winter. I only hand-wash my truck, and the only time I can do that is when the temperature reaches 45 deg. or so. Which hasn't happened very often this winter.

I did apply wax to the truck in October.

When I wash the truck I have to gently rub the spots with my fingernail to get them to come off.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to get the spots off, and keep them from coming back.

I've lived in Michigan all my life, and I've owned many of different vehicles, but I've never experienced anything like this before.

I would really appreciate some feedback from people who have experienced this problem, and what you have done about it.

Thank you,

Tim

Clay should take care of them... You are probably only noticing them now because you are driving a white vehicle. I'd just slap some collinite on it to get as much protection as you can.

Just what Jason said...

You can protect your vehicle as much as you can, but you are always going to have to clay to remove the fallout a couple-few times per year. All cars get this fallout, it's not new to your vehicle, just new that you notice it [on a white vehicle].

If you get a mild clay you can do it every time you give the truck a good wash and it will not take so long. If you wait too long, I'd imagine just the clay portion of the detail will take well over an hour.

Good luck.

After a rain here, I notice that our two white vehicles will be covered with a black film and have black streaks on the side. I guess this would be fallout/acid rain? This is without any driving in the rain too.

If the cars are freshly washed/detailed then yes, its the rain. If they aren't, then it can be the dirt/oils, and such on the car and trapped in stripping/seals etc getting loosened up and moving around.
