If you polish through the cc, is the damage visible?

My L5-S1 is killing me!
Just wondering if you thought you polished through a clear coat, would the body panel look visibly different?

Scott is correct, the area will be very dull, and you'll probably be getting some color transfer from the basecoat onto your pads.

Hmm, well I'm going out of town in a couple hours but I had started to polish my Milano red 98 Integra for the first time with a PC. Did a 1 minute pass on the DS door and got lots of red on the pad from the car (cutting pad with SSR3, yeah I know kinda harsh). I did 3 passes of this on the hood though without incident, I think the hood has been repainted though.

But the area was identical to the rest of the car (looks great)

Then I tried a mf with PB's QD+ and rubbed the paint a bit *in a different spot on the car* by hand and the mf then had red/pink on it! DACP on a foam pad *rubbed by hand* also turns the pad a bit pink in yet a third spot on the car.

I thought my car was clearcoated? Is it possible the cc is that thin? I bought car a year ago, the paint was almost pinkish (the car was not very well cared for) so I assume it has never been polished before (except by myself this past time)

Anyway I'm confused. I'll make a seperate post later in the week as I won't have internet access until then.

DS door (front was polished with SSR3, back section with only SSR2. Both areas look identical

the area circled I rubbed with QD+ and a mf by hand and it turned the mf pink. I KNOW this area was never polished i.e. should have 100% of the cc there, if there was cc to begin with

Red Integra's have single stage paint from the factory and that's why you're getting the transfer. If the hood has been repainted they must have clearcoated it and therefore no color transfer.

Can anyone else confirm this? I got a PM from a Integra owner stating he thought the car IS cc'ed from the factory....

You'll need to check your VIN number with Acura to confirm 100% if the car was 2 stage or single stage paint. That only helps if the car has never been repainted.

The colour transfer and high sheen definitely indicate single stage paint. The hood was repainted most likely.

Note: Some car manufactures still use single stage paint today depending on the colour. Lexus for black will still something use single stage paint because it's less likely to show swirls marks etc than the clearcoated black.

Can't you look on the build/option sheet? GM cars say what kind of paint finish (will say BC/CC for base coat/clear coat) it is along with the color code. I suspect other manufacturers would as well.

I'm not the original owner so I don't have the build sheet.

The color is R-81 I think, Milano Red.

Well, for now I'll assume my car had no cc from the factory unless I hear otherwise. Thanks.

BTW-I'm messaging from Chihuahua, MX right now :) Too bad it's for work and not a vacation....

No build sheet needed, Hondas have their paint code on a label on the driver door pillar. There are a bunch of reds offered on 98 Honda/Acuras; for entertainment, you can look at the color code list through here: www.autovisuals.com/paintcode.asp . "Black Currant Pearl" or "Raisin Pearl", anyone?

I have a 2004 TSX, which I have seen in Milano Red (although mine is not). Based on discussions on TSX boards, Milano Red is a paint combination of a red metallic base coat, with a tinted "clear" coat.

Detailed 3 red integras, milano red, all had clearcoats

I got curious and called acura, they said that all years from 94+ with milano red paint were cc'ed from the factory.

(Hits self in head) Yes, this is right. This jarred my memory. This is pretty much the standout "funky" paint scheme with the Honda/Acura cars. :o

The straight clear coat thing is not exactly accurate if its tinted is it?
