Ice water to enhance wax's shine???

Wait... I like their opening screen, they claim to replace oils and nutrients in the paint! Is it a wax site or an add for Revlon?

It's been a few days since this comment so i guess no mod is going to say anything. That's just sad. I take that back - it's REALLY sad!



Even IF 99% of his posts did no good for the community, it's not your job to show him as little respect as possible.
 
I hate letting things get personal. But after around 500+ posts of majorly worthless detailing advice, I agree with BW.



Don't even get me started on the bad grammar and spelling.

Actually, the mods have been watching to see where this thread goes. I think the full body slams should be kept to a minimum. However, the original post is quite hilarious. It's a new "snake oil" tip for my next book.

Well guys, I thought I might toss this thread back on topic here.



I just happened to be waxing the car today (coincidence, I think not;) ) and thought I might humor the idea of using ice-cold water to do the final wipe-down on my finish. Let me tell you, it didn't seem to make any difference. I was quite disappionted. Not because it didn't look better but i spent all of that time running the ice under warm water so I could make the cubes small enough to fit through the neck of the bottle. After all of that, my hand cramps up because the bottle is so cold!



This is what happens when I am bored and my wife is not home. If I am bored while she is home, well I'll just stop there. ;)

Well, the spousal absence is unavoidable on Tuesday and Thursday nights as well as Saturday mornings due to her school. She has decided to go back to school to learn massage therapy. It sure will be nice when she knows how to loosen (sp? its too late) up my lower back after using the PC on my doors and rocker panels. :D



Hmm, I wonder what the PC would do on my back?

Now there's one for the "alternative uses of detailing stuff" thread! As a "jiggle machine" the PC will both rub and massage your back far faster than human hands at a blistering (:D) 6000 OPM. :spot
 
I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, because I"m lazy and don't feel like reading everything:o, but do you guys think the whole myth about ice cold water and improving the shine is just a spin off on another myth where cold water being spritzed on a shoe after being polished to increase shine?

Sounds like the same concept to me. Probably some yahoo on the internet said to himself "if I'm suppposed to do it to my boots then maybe it'll work on the car too..."

Well I think I figured out why I can't find any posts (except ONE) in the Archives referring to using ice to cure or improve wax shine. I was confusing the use of ice water with the suggestion from someone to use distilled water applied like a QD to flash cure waxes. :o



Might be a similar idea, but..... does it work? ;)
 
Ice water does enhance the shine...after I take a sip and cool down a bit, the car I am detailing always looks better! :D
 
I'm guessing the author of the not-so-practical tip must feel that when wax has a hard surface it will take on a better shine than when soft. This might very well. However, to put this to practical use, you would have to bring the whole car temperature down. Ice water just isn't going to go it.



Someone mentioned the spit shine theory. Nope, does not apply. A spit shine uses your saliva to lubricate the polish surface making it possible to lay down a heavy wax layer. Over time, the wax layer becomes perfectly smooth because the lubrication prevents the polishing cloth from removing the wax film (so it can build up). I have played around with paste car waxes, with some success, using a foam applicator and carnauba detailing spray. So far, I have only found a couple of waxes that will work, and it is an immense amount of work.
