I will own this car...

Wait a year or so and the with the rebates they will nearly be paying you to take one! I think the 300 is a fad car that will pass quickly just like some of their other trendy cars.

the 300c won motor trend car of the year and is a car and driver top ten car. I will be buying a 2006 300C . I never buy a first year car. I believe that Chrysler/Dodge's reliablity is getting better. I have two Dodge Neons one is a 1995 ACR and the other is a 2002 Dodge Neon ACR. ACR, means that they are both showroom stock cars/SCCA Class C. They have adjustable struts, four wheel disc brakes etc. The 95 has 170,000 miles on it and the first major problem was at 97,000. The 2002 has 48500 miles on it and has zero problems and has never been back to the dealer. I have changed oil in it and put new plugs/tires. I do my own maintenance on my cars. I believe my 2002 is rated five stars for reliablity. My 2002 will run stock 15.40 in the quarter and has a top speed of 131. It is also a great handling car and is one of the most fun to drive cars for the money/13000 OTD.The new 300C runs the 1/4 in 14.5 to 13.9 and have a top speed limiter of 126 mph. It is not a great handling car but all the suspension and brake parts from the SRT-8 will bolt on. The SRT-8 is the performance model of the 300C. It will have 425 HP!!

exactly...

in my opinion, the 300c is a nice looking car, but i know from having atleast 2 chrysler products, that they are crap, and something in its gonna break... after having 2 mercedes, i do have to say they are the worst made out of lexus, bmw, audi, and now even acura is surpassing them, and this is all from first hand experience of driving all these vehicles..

Oh definitely. I've heard WAY too many people calling them the "ghetto rolls-royce," and that image is going to drive people away from them.

Not to mention, the same thing has happened to escalades and navigators in my area -- I think I can count on one hand the number of them I've seen without dubs and being driven by middle-aged business people (who the trucks are really marketed at, or so I'm thinking.)

Gary,

Since no one else will say it... may be I will

Good luck on the new car hunt and lots of luck with it.

Are you getting rid of the cruiser?

"J"

Man, I see you guys know your cars ( as well as detailing) Jaybs95> I won't get rid of my cruiser, Its a whole different sort of car. For those of you that do not know this, I'm the Vice-President of the Chicagoland PT Cruiser Club, and my car was the top ten finalist at the Chrysler block party this past Sept. The modifications I will will doing this Jan I'm sure you get national attention. The Cruiser is a love/hate type of car. You either love the car or hate it, no inbetween. I have 35,000 miles on my turbo and I'm pleased to say I have had nothing but excitement driving the car. Not one mechanical problem. When I get done with it I will be pushing 275 HP out of her. I ripped the entire interior out, its all custom. My air brush artist will be doing some work for me soon as well. The car reflects my era of the hot rod days, and no factory car on the road today lends itself to be customized so much as the Cruiser. we have 40 plus cars in our club and its a great way to meet fun people and do social events. The other nice thing is when I go to car shows and set up my Cruiser, I walk around and promote my business and sell detailing supplies, it makes for a perfect life. Gary

Regarding design similarities to other vehicles, I think car makers have been "eating their own" for many years. Take a look at how many design features are borrowed from other, successful makes, on almost any vehicle.

Borrowing successful design ideas doesn't drive people away, in my opinion.

I'm currently driving a 2004 Durango, and it also seems to get really strong responses. People either love it or hate it. Same goes with the Hemi engine. In any case, I like it, and haven't had any problems with it. As a matter of fact, the 2000 Nissan Maxima I traded in for it had more squeaks, rattles and problems. How's that for Japanese reliability?

I don't know what crash test ratings someo f you are reading but the 300C has recieved good marks.

My only problem with the car is that it's just so damn boring. You get in, turn it on, hear the engine and think oh this may be fun. And then you start driving it and it's like a Lexus with a big engine. The steering lacks feel and is light--not unlike a GM truck. It's kind of like driving a boat. The suspension tries to be too soft--okay, I'll say this: Toyota has somehow made all of their cars ride like lincoln continentals but without the wallowing ride. The 300C wallows. It has a hard time keeping up with itself. It's like it knows what it should be doing and it will do it for a little while and then it gives up. "Okay, I'm done. I'm going back to being a boat again."

The plastics are good, certainly as good if not better than the CTS which is a great car with a horrible interior. :nixweiss It begs the question of why bother making it a Cadillac. Why not make it a saturn or a pontiac? The STS doesn't compare to the 300C since, well, if the 300C cost as much as the STS then it would probably have a better interior than it. But it doesn't cost 40,000 it costs 23k-34k and if you are expecting a great interior then I just don't think the 300C is a good car for you. It's saving grace is: It has a lot of power, and it's big for the money. I would probably take the CTS with the 3.6 and new 6 speed manual over the 300C. And I may be able to accept the not so great interior and take it over a TL, 3 series, etc.

It's like a Caprice Classic replacement. :nixweiss I don't get why American car makers are so willing to go 9/10ths of the way and then say "lets just make it like it used to be--a big car that's a wallowing fat pig. And nobody will care about the interior because the car they had back in the day didn't have good interiors. If we're lucky we'll get somebody that previously owned a Land Rover since you can drive a semi through the gaps of their interiors" I did some dogging of Lexus in this thread but it seems like they have set a goal for perfection: To make a car that feels like you are just there telling it what to do. And they do a great job at that but that is not what I want out of a car.

I am also a GM fan, but i do like the car. I just think that they are making cars so they can put in the hemi. I mean you probably need the hemi to push that big "snout".

Heh heh, I'm sure you didn't intend that to imply that my 9C1 Caprices are "wallowing fat pigs". A few minutes on a track would change such an opinion ;)

Just a knee-jerk response to somebody possibly calling a few of my babies ugly :D

I guess that's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors to accomodate a wide range of tastes. I think the Crossfire has a more dramatic exterior style but the interior is cramped. My wife has a Sequoia and it has delivered solid performance and reliability although I also baby that car and make sure all the preventative maintenace is done on time and right!

Shiny Lil Detlr, you are quite wrong. The escalades and Navigators are totally marketed towards the urban (young, black, whatever) crowed. Lincoln signed a contract with the rapper Ludacris because in his song "Southeren Hospitality" he clearly talked about his "lade" and Caddilac's sells increased ALOT.

The 300C is being marketed the same way. Rappers like 50 cent and Chingy had the 300C a whole year before the general public got them. It is not uncommon to see at least 10-20 300c's in either "DUB" or "Rides" magazine.

The 2000 was the first year of the fifth-generation Maxima. The first year cars always seem to have more issues than subsequent years.

Would you honestly expect a 2000 to have LESS rattles/squeaks than a 2004? Who would want to buy a brand new car that already made noises?

I have a 95 Max with 158000 miles and that has been in two accidents, and it is still running strong and solid. I've replaced the clutch, knock sensor, and oxygen sensors. All the sensors were easily replaced myself.

Any car will have varying reliability depending on how you treat it. If you drive it hard all the time and never do any preventative maintenance, it will not treat you well either. That applies to any vehicle... foreign or domestic.

Well neither of them is going to win any handling contests!

But you'd think in 10 years Chrysler could make it handle better. :nixweiss I guess this is what you get for taking parts from the 10 years old bin.

I guess I better not even start a thread on the New 2005 Mustang???? Glad to see we have have our own opinions, I was never a chrylser fan till the Cruiser came out, that doesn't mean I don't like other cars either.

Hmm.... seems like in my area, they're marketed more to mid-aged business people; but that could just be the area I'm in as compared to other areas.
