I Might Have Swirled My Z During My First PC Use, !! Please Help !!

Let me chime in here...

The orange pad is a dual-purpose cutting/polishing pad. I don't carry the pure cutting pad (normally yellow) because they are too harsh for most applications. The orange pad is designed to be used with a fine cut compound or a cleaner polish. If you get swirl marks using the orange pad it's because you didn't use enough polish to keep the surface lubricated.

The white pad is the work horse. It is a polishing pad that can be used with any polish formula.

The grey pad is for creating the final finish. I also use it to remove swirls on dark cars. When you use the grey pad to polish, the polish does all of the work because the pad is so fine. You can also use the grey pad to wax and remove wax residue.

In all cases, you must change to a clean pad each time you change product. Mixing product on a pad is a bad idea. You should also prime your pads with a spritz of QD before first use.

hmmm.. The yellow pads are really to harsh? I've been using them with no problems but that's not to say it may be more cutting power then i need. How much softer are the orange pads compared to the yellow?

Well, I actually thought that I was putting too much product on my pad. One thing that I DIDN'T do is prime my pad with spritz of QD before use.

David, would you suggest that I give the Orange pad another go with PP before giving up on it or simply stick with the white pad?

PP on a white polishing pad should take care of most swirls. It works great on my m3. I don't know how hard nissan paint is though.

Thanks for the response guys. :xyxthumbs

armoredsaintt I only time see the Vandy area during our monthly Z meeting. Usually after our meeting we drive around and find a place to eat around that area. We have one next Thursday, are you going to be here then?

Unfortunately I won't be there until Friday night and leaving on Sunday, what part of Nashville are you at BTW?

Excellent points DavidB :xyxthumbs . "Let the product do the work".....a friend of mine drilled that into my head during what turned out to be a full day of rotary lessons. He drove the point home by demonstrating on a badly swirled and etched black SS. He took a medium coarse compound and applied it using an extra fine polishing pad achieving an incredibly fine finish (way better than would have been using the traditional cutting pad). The difference between where I had used a cutting pad and where he used the fine pad was astounding. I had to go back over my section twice with medium polish then a fine polish to clear the haze whereas he went over once with a light final polish and it was a mirror.

Ever since that day I'dl reach for the lighter duty pads and step up the product a bit if I have to.
