I just did something I haven't done in more than 10 years

I took my car to a tunnel car wash. It is only 31 degrees and I'm not freezing my buns off on Christmas Eve. I just wanted it clean so I can polish it out before heading over to my parent's house.

They actually didn't do a horrible job but they missed the bottom of the front spoiler and my fenderwells still looked bad. For $10, it was worth it to avoid losing a couple fingers to frostbite. :p

I wanna take my car to the touchfree.. but at 3 degrees with snow covered roads, I'd just be freezing myself in a car that would get dirty before I got it home :(

Don't feel bad. I just ran the Tahoe through the Shell tunnel (BP still uses bristled brushes) since we're going on a trip tomorrow. I'm not going to bother hand washing it since it'll get just as dirty in a matter of 4 hours.

Oh, well. It's o.k. to cheat sometimes. Merry Christmas! :)

I left myself open for a comment like that, didn't I Megan? My youngest kid is nearly 16, you do the math on that. ;)

:) Who cares if you're going to polish it out?

Ditto.

I washed 3 cars today, each with warm water in the bucket. I had to go in for about 3 mins between washes to dethaw.

Oh yeah, temps were a touch above 32.

DetailGirl: :rofl

Thats why they make Menzerna. Nothing better than the feeling of finishing the first Spring detail. You get to remove all traces of the winter car washes.

I had an experience this morning and I feel for the rest of you, it was about 42 degrees and I washed and waxed my girlfriends accord in order to get it ready for our drive to NoVa on sunday.

My hands are still numb :D

Last Summer while I was hobbling around one-legged, I had my Wife use the touchless wash several times. I haven't found a touchless wash that is very effective, admittedly I haven't tried many (if anyone knows one, please post). During the cold days (which thankfully are few) I take my chances at a DIY "wand" wash bay. Follow up with PB's Spray & Wipe and it is better than dirty :D The wheel wells are free of major debris, but not as clean as scrubbed, and not dressed, but again...better than dirty. ;)

Well, I polished the %$^&* out of my car. #80 with a polishing pad, VM with a polishing pad, Yellow Wax (CK version) with a finishing pad and topped with Carnauba Moose and AIO on the glass. Cleaned and dressed the tires and fenderwells too. I just have to stay off the freeway flyovers on the way to my parents so I don't get dust on my car.

At least now my Dad won't be able to needle me, his detailer son, about a filthy car. :)

Although I'm not a huge fan of the Tunnel washes I do wish that I had the luxury of having that as an option from time to time in the winter...only problem is that both of my cars are too low to go throgh any of those...even the touchless ones where you wheel drops into a recess to trigger the process to start...I learned the hard way by getting stuck in one of those last year. I'll just have to stick to insulated gloves I suppose!

42 degrees is practically a heat wave here in December. I would be wearing a T shirt washing my car in that kind of weather. You people in the warm weather states are so spoiled.:)

because of that, i may have to go though a "tunnel wash" as well.. we'll see... im trying to stay away..

I did a QEW here in SE PA yesterday. It was 38 degrees when I started. Warm water and vinyl gloves with cotton gloves under them. By the time I finished the truck it was just about freezing. Thanks to all that sang the praises of QEW. Without it the the truck would still be dirty. I got a PC for Christmas and now I just need some pads and warm weather. Thanks to everybody for the great information on this site.
