I joined Anthony and bought a Steam Cleaner - YAHOO

I'm definately interested in seeing some before and afters on some dirty door jams. I'm thinking about getting one! Can someone do some dirty jams? :dance

Well I finally got around to using my Piccolo today.

First impressions:

Mine was either used or refurbished. There was some light scale at the bottom of the boiler, and even a tiny puddle of water that was visible running across if you tipped the unit. I filled it up with distilled water and followed the directions from there.

When the light went off (signal that the steam is ready), I blasted my bathtub fixtures with steam for a bit, and then wiped them with a cheap MF, and a little elbow grease.

I was suprised at the amount of pressure/noise from the jet at first, but then I got the hang of the steam control lever. After a minute or two, it started smelling like burning plastic, so I turned the machine off and unplugged it, and then just used the remaining steam for the rest of the time. My apartment's smoke detector has been known to go off once in a while... :o .

Here are the results:

All in all, this machine seems like it was a very wise investment. I'm sure there are tons of uses that I can find for it.

Aloha from Hawaii. I just ordered one. They do not ship to Hawaii so I'm shipping it to my Mother-In-Law's house in Ohio. The shipping from there to Hawaii will be around $30. I figure in the end I will still save $100. As was stated, if you go to the Saeco web site and order it will cost you $200.00.

I look forward to using it in all the door jams, under the hood in the hard to get areas, and around the inside of the hatch/trunk areas. I figure it may save me some busted up knucles!!!

What do you think about using a GPD spray followed by the steamer in the areas mentioned above? I hope it will make cleaning easier.

I will follow-up once I try the product.

I use APC and the steamer in this way on engines; it seems to work well. Just as with any other method, though, do be careful. I find that if you use a minimal amount of the cleaner, and scrub it in with a toothbrush, you can get away without a HUGE mess after the steam dispurses the crud.

Bradley,

Since it is about 38 or so and cloudy, rainy here in Indianapolis, I am wishing I was in Hawaii.

I had good luck on my door jambs. I sprayed some all purpose cleaner on the the greasy areas, then hit it with the steamer, and it worked well. It rocked on the heel marks on the door where my kids step out. I didn't use in in the engine too much. I just cleaned mine not long ago and have kept it clean by just wiping it down. I think the cleaner and then the steamer will work well, at least it did for me.

So.........how does the unit perform taking wrinkles out of dress slacks for touching up purposes ?

Im kinda curious as I am on the verge of buying one of those small steamer that you travel with to take wrinkles out dress pants/shirts.

Aloha again. Thanks for the report from Indy. I'm from there just north about 20 miles or so. A town called Zionsville. I'm sure the weather is much nicer over here in Hawaii for detailing cars. I look forward to getting my steam cleaner!!!!

We were thinking about moving to Zionsville, we live over by Geist Reservoir

Hope you like the steam cleaner I love mine. Dog had a little, well a big, explosive incident, when someone fed her the wrong food. The steam cleaner and the extractor worked great.

Steamed crap = hot s***? Sorry...it's been a long day.

There are no attachments that are specifically made for cleaning fabrics. But I think it would work well to steam the fabric, and then pat dry with a cheap MF towel. Just make sure that the fabric can handle the heat. A clean, damaged couch is no better off than a dirty, good-condition couch.

Does anyone know if the piccolo will clean a fabric couch? Are there attachments for this? :nixweiss

Yes, use the window squeegy attachment and wrap a towel around it. The rubber is far more delicate than the bristles on the brush attachments.

I used the Piccolo today with stellar results. I used the window squeegy with a cotton towel and Meguiar's APC+ 20:1 to do my cloth upholstery, and the floor attachment and cotton towel with Meguiar's APC+ 20:1 to do my carpeting. Where I had a stain, a slow pass with the steamer / brush and extra squirt of APC cleaned it up. I went back with a clean towel and a few more passes of the steamer to ensure everything was removed. The carpeting was left near dry and fresh smelling.

I also sanitized my vents.

This sucker packs a nice head of steam :xyxthumbs

Hmm...I might have to steam my seats and vents tomorrow! Perfect job for a 40* day! I wonder how much dirt I could get out of my tires with the steamer and a tire brush...

I got a bit nervous when the inside of my instrument panel fogged up :scared: :nervous:

But it went away in 10 minutes. It was cool, I sprayed in the corner vent on the top right side of the dash meant to defrost the right front window; and steam shot out of the defroster and the driver side corner vent!! It'll fog up your whole windshield. Pretty cool to see.

Also, like I just mentioned above, use the rubber squeegy with a towel and do your cloth upholstered seats. No bristles to come through and scratch the seats up. :xyxthumbs
