The H2 argument always makes me laugh. The majority of the time it's just people spewing misinformation like a bunch of parrot's.
Who really cares if the truck uses a frame from another vehicle in their line up. Does that really make it a bad truck? I think not. I do think it reduces costs though.
Here is some info on the frame,
"We share chassis and steering components with the heavy-duty 2500-Series Suburban and the 1500 Suburban," says Charlie Martin, the vehicle systems engineer for the Hummer H2 chassis and drivetrain. "But most of those shared parts have been heavily modified."
Though the H2 began life using more of a Suburban frame, the final frame assembly is made up of 3 sections. The front uses a modified GM 2500-Series utility frame. The mid-section is all new and is completely boxed. The rear section uses a modifed GM 1500-Series frame which is upgraded for 8000 pound gross vehicle weight. Front and rear receiver mounts with 9000 pound winch capability are integrated into the frame. The rear hitch has an estimated 7000 pound capacity.
I also don't understand why people get so hung up on mileage. Here is a quote from Car and Driver from their most recent test of pick up trucks.
For power users, the F-150 will be a disappointment. It tied with the Ram for worst fuel economy—at 11 mpg—on our test trip
Hmm, that's remarkably similar mileage of the H2. Ford and Dodge trucks are solds by the hundreds of thousands but no one is crying to those owners on how much they
waste. Despite the low MPG of all of these vehicles they all burn as cleanly as a Civic or a Neon. If they are willing to pay at the pump then why is it anyone else's business?
Comparing the H2 to the H1 is also unrealistic. The H1 was designed as a military vehicle first and civilian vehicle after. The H2 was not. Aside from that, the price of an H1 can easily be double that of an H2. If you want to make that comparison you might as well compare a Neon SRT4 to a Viper and then complain the Neon is garbage, slow and doesn't handle or brake as well as the Viper.
Sure most H2 owners will NEVER see so much as a stone road let alone a rocky trail but I also know many Z06 owners that will never see 170mph. Does that make the respective vehicles useless??? I think not. It's just another thoughtless point people try and use to degrade the H2.
Now it's on to the H2 marketing. What the hell do you expect the commercial to say? Remember, they are trying to sell vehicles to make money.
The H2 performs very well and exceeds most other vehicles in off road capapbility (comparing stock vehicles). If the truck wasn't a threat, Jeep would not have produced their latest commercials depicting a stuck H2 and they also would not have designed a concept that dwarfs the H2.
Do H2's get stuck and/or break? Sure. So does every other car or truck out there. One person breaks a tie rod and all of a sudden the H2 is garbage. We all have to remember the capabilities of any vehicle are directly related to the skill of the driver.
Corey, I have also witnessed many close calls but it has nothing to do with the vehicle and everything to do with the moron behind the wheel. That guy would have done the same thing regardless of what he was driving. He's just an idiot.
Remember, it's a free country and people can choose to drive whatever they like. Why people waste their time and money on websites that beat the truck down is beyond me.
