How Long Does It Take To Detail ??

To do a proper detailing, soup-to-nuts, how long do you find it takes you? I'm not talking about detailing for a show competition, just a regular EXTERIOR ONLY wash-chem wash-clay-sealant-wax routine.

If anybody wants to let me know how long it takes to engine/interiror detail, feel free. As my car is brand new, I figure I can wait on this.

I can take a car all the way threw with out the motor in about 5 hours almost on the money. That's also trunk removing the spare / cleaning and putting back in.
Once you get the routine down that works for you it can go pretty fast!
On your new car get in the hablit of wiping the motor down every wash. I have done this with my new cars and my 00 BMW looks like a new motor.

This is the way to do it. The engine compartment is pretty easy to keep clean, but can be a real chore to clean once it gets really dirty.

Gotcha on the engine cleaning....the car is only 1 month old, I'm sure I can go another month or two...it'll be alot of work (and anxiety) just going through the 4 or 5 steps to do the exterior right, using my polisher, using the MF towels, etc.

When I do start engine detailing, is there a quickie-list off the top of your heads as to what I need? I presume the interior stuff is best purchased online, not available at most stores, as with all the exterior stuff I bought?

One reason I want to read up more on engine cleaning is my dad told me years ago he cleaned his and he put something on the engine/wires/something that prevented the engine from starting (I guess this was early 1970's, not sure). Anyway, even though he knew a decent amount about cars, he had to call his bro-in-law for help (a real expert) to figure out what the hell he screwed up. When I mentioned to him I eventually want to clean the family car engines, he mentioned this to me. I figure today's engines/interiors are better covered/protected than cars of yesteryear so hopefully this problem doesn't happen on our cars (1994, 2001, 2004 models).
