How do you wash in 20 degrees?

Strange name, ain't it?
Poorboy's Spray and Wipe! Had some road salt and light dirt on the truck that found its way back on after going to the self serve wash the other day and it was bothering me. I grabbed three new 16x16 JT mfs (sooo soft) and my spray bottle with Poorboy's Spray and Wipe. I used more product than usual due to the road salt residue but still only about 6 ounces.



Within 15 minutes and two completely frozen hands later, the truck was beautifuly clean and shining once again with a fairly fresh application of UPP. No mess, no ice freezing on the driveway, just a super clean truck. I'm going to head out and do the running boards, wheels, tires and windows a bit later this morning.

You're as big a nut as me:D I went out the other day after the snow and wanted to see how much work was going to be involved...but I didn't go to the wash first;) I did half the hood, a fender, and rear left door of the Tahoe.. Took 2 mf and about 4 oz. Man my fingers were freezing. Now the truck has 3 clean spots around all that white salt.

Evidently the Spray & Wipe didn't freeze on the vehicle while you were using it. Do you have any idea as to the freezing temp of the Spray & Wipe?

Charles to tell you the truth ...I :dunno....will contact the chemist on monday and ask him or ask him to test it?

I had left a bottle in my Tahoe when it got cold the other night and when I came out the next morning it was fine but the bottle of poland spring water was frozen. So I believe it must be lower than 32* for a prolonged period of time.

Also just had another idea that if the vehicle is warm or/and running and the sun is out it could be done in cold weather with no problems....just more product and towels(mf).
 
It just seemed that putting a liquid on a 20 degree surface would be asking for immediate ice. Evidently that was not the case with Natty or yourself. If Spray & Wipe can be used in 20 degree temperatures, I will have to order some very soon.

You guys live in the Tropics. It's 20 dgrees here with a forecast high of 28, with 15 to 25 mph winds. Of course tomorrow it will be back in the 30's.

ROFL, never seen so many darned oak, elm and birch trees in the tropics!



Anyway, didn't have any prob with the product freezing on the truck. It does seem to take a little longer to get the Spray and Wipe buffed out than it does in nice, 70+ degree weather. Of course, it could also be because I sprayed more than I normally would due to the road salt residue. Still, I have noticed it does take a few more wipes to clear the product in the lower temps.



Gotta take my glacier gloves out of the fishing vest next time I do a sub-freezing wash.

Natty just saw your post and I agree...I used more and it did take a cleaner/dryer mf the second go over to clear up totally for me. But it was real cold and I also used more than normal , didn't want to chance scratching. Will probably use less as winter goes on and get better technics down. :xyxthumbs
 
Well maybe I am a bit crazy. I just went out on the driveway to let the dog out and couldn't resist the urge to try the Bold N Brite tire dressing. First went over the tires with Spray and Wipe, then sprayed BNB liberally, let it dry almost completely. Then cleaned the wheels with Spray and Wipe and lightly buffed the rest of the BNB dry on the tires. All I can say is the BNB is very nice stuff! I noticed it also managed to clean the white letters a bit more even though I cleaned the tires first with Spray and Wipe.



BNB leaves a very nice gloss finish but not overyly glossy like a "wet look" gell or something that looks unnaturally shiny or plasticy.



We'll see how BNB holds up but initial reaction is :xyxthumbs .

Never used Meg Endurance or E1 but no comparo to 303 or Meg's W-Dressing in terms of gloss. BNB is a high gloss but not not the ultra shiny wet look (which I don't like). Maybe a second application of BNB would get the wet look, or if you just spray and leave it without buffing, but that's not for me.



It is a thin, easily sprayed consistency unlike Meg's W-Dressing which is a high viscosity product that almost requires a wipe on rather than spray. The only thing about thinner, spray ons, like BNB, is that they tend to run a bit so do the wheels after the BNB, not before.



Next, I'm gonna try and sneak back out and do the dash and door panels with the PB Natural Look. May be tough though, I need to go get ready for a family reunion at 1:00 pm.

right again...a second coating or just spray and leave will give a wet look. just remember if you do to do a light pat down before driving to prevent slinging.

You'll also notice it has no scent...tires shouldn't smell IMO

Natty... How could you spray and wipe all the salt off the car... Wouldn't that swirl the S**t out of it? I am a little lost here...

The Spray and Wipe has actually more lubrication than soap and water. Of course in this weather we have you will use quite a bit more than during the rest of the year. The emulsifiers and surfactants in the product help move the dirt away from the surface to WIPE away don't RUB. It also may take a couple of extra mf cloths and a light touch to prevent scratching. If you can go to a self service wash and rinse it down first, it'll defintely make it easier and use less product. People who live in apts. or have no access to self serve washes in the winter will just have to use more but do have a choice.

it is 26 out now, 20-30mph winds and snowing. 65 in garage, just took my coat off and washing the car now. I am watching/listing to the CMA awards on CMT........



so It is the same as I do when it is 80 out :)

No, I let the water run out of the door(s) The garage floor is slanted good so it is ok. I leave the door upen about 1/4inch to let it out, then Squeegee, then shut it all the way. Someday when I build on I will put a drain in.;)
