HELP! Which OTC Wax should I get to complete this project?

Ok guys, I need your help in selecting an OTC wax. Step 6 is where I need your help. Here's the steps and products I'm gonna do:

1. Go to coin-operated car wash at 4:00am (no choice here, no hoses or driveways...)

2. Wash with their stuff, but only the soap and water. Go over it with a sponge too.

3. Dry with microfiber

4. Clay bar all painted parts of car (leftover Mothers California Gold Clay Bar), lube with leftover Clay Magic lube and then Mothers California Gold Showtime Quick Detailer (spray) after that runs out, go over the entire car one more time with Showtime and drying with microfiber

5. Apply Mothers Reflections Premium Polish (liquid) with applicator to any scratches and buff them out with microfiber

6....Wax the painted areas...But what product??? Already got the applicator and microfiber for this

7. Apply Meguiars NXT Tech Wax (liquid) to all painted areas with applicator, and buff out with microfiber.

I've used Mothers Cleaner wax on a friend's car with this exact method for #6, but now i'm running low on it so I need a replacement...what should it be? I just wanna hit Wal-mart and find a good product at a decent price...paste or liquid is fine, I like to think paste works better though and there's more of it.

Please let me know if there's any steps I should take or do differently in the above too! I also have Mothers California Gold Scratch Remover (should I used this instead of Polish?), DuPont Teflon Car Wax, Turtle Wax Polishing Compound (green)

Thanks!

Why not just use the NXT that you're going to use anyway in step 7? You could always go with Mother's reflections since you're using their polish. I personally have no experience with the scratch removers that you've listed, but if it is labeled a "scratch remover," then I wouldnt use it in place of a polish. You might create more problems than you solve that way.

I'm a little confused, on nr. 6 are you talking about a paste wax or a cleaner wax? If it is a cleaner wax either Meg's or Mother's should work. I guess NXT is your LSP. Trying to remove swirls or scratches by hand will take some work. Depending on how bad the paint is you might need at least a pc. Good Luck!!!

on Number six, i'm actually not sure if I should use a paste wax or a cleaner wax (i thought they came in liquid and paste). What's the difference between a cleaner wax and a paste wax?

Not sure what a PC is (paint cleaner?)

Cleaner wax is basically a paint cleaner, polish, and wax in one step. Paste wax is just a paste form of an LSP. A PC is a porter cable machine that helps remove defects faster and better than using anything by hand.

As for your wash technique, I would be careful on what kind of sponge you use since this can be causing the scratches you are trying to remove. A wool wash mitt would be safer but many here like the grout sponge.

You mention Mothers Reflections. This is not going to remove many scratches. It is a synthetic wax with mild cleaners and not commonly available OTC. You later mention Mothers California Gold Cleaner Wax. This is available at most OTC locations (Walmart). This cleaner wax has stronger cleaners but will not remove many of the scratches.

You can use the Mothers Scratch Remover to remove scratches but if they are all over the vehicles it can take a long time.

You do not have to apply NXT over the Cleaner Wax so wash, clay, selective use of Scratch Remover, and then either Cleaner Wax or NXT.

Thanks for all the help guys. I went with the Mothers California Gold Cleaner Wax (it was like $5 at Wal-mart) because I figured I gotta clean the paint somehow and a little bit of a carnuba never hurt, right? It was smooth after buffing but I finished it with the NXT and it was slippery as hell.

I'll try to improve any parts of this for the next time I do it...any other suggestions?
