I would recommend getting 3M UltraFina and Meguiar's #105. With just those two and the right pads, you can tackle any job in *half* the time of Optimum, due to their fast working times.
Totally agree. I have gotten good results with Optimum Polish, but not on hard clears.
There's a steep learning curve to M105, but it is definitely worth taking the time to learn it. Tim hits it right on the head: with those two products, you can do just about any job out there. Just don't get frustrated and give up on the M105.

Same here, but he's wanting to save some money. He could almost get a quart of UF and M105 for the price of one liter of 106.
