Bingo. The fact that all these cars are either gone or will be gone within the year started some interesting talk with a few of my friends and me. One friend, in particular, told me that he saw some racing show or TV news special on teens or young 20 year olds who were dragstripping. Supposedly some 18 year old kid had this brand spankin Firebird-Ramair that was killing all vehicles that he was racing against. He seemed intent on finding some competition that night. Anyway, my friend told me he walked up to this 20 something guy who owned a Supra and challenged him. The other guy accepted but the Firebird was able to best the guy in the Supra.
I just couldn't accept this. I scoffed at the idea. I said "What?' I immediately asked if the Supra was standard or if it was the 98 Supra which had a 0-60 time of 5.0 flat. I also hinted that perhaps the owner of the Supra really wasn't a great street racer. And though I didn't have all my fastest times for each car, I did strongly feel that the wonderful Supra could best all the other ones. Ok, well maybe not the Grand National. At any rate, we all had a good discussion on these once proud muscle machines. Sad to see them go away.
One other thing. What's the fastest time you've all heard for a new Formula Firebird? Another thing comes to mind. How the hell did the engineers come up with the Grand National and why? What were they thinking. I mean 1/4 mile times in under 9 seconds. Too fast!
