Hello from Pittsburgh.

Bingo. The fact that all these cars are either gone or will be gone within the year started some interesting talk with a few of my friends and me. One friend, in particular, told me that he saw some racing show or TV news special on teens or young 20 year olds who were dragstripping. Supposedly some 18 year old kid had this brand spankin Firebird-Ramair that was killing all vehicles that he was racing against. He seemed intent on finding some competition that night. Anyway, my friend told me he walked up to this 20 something guy who owned a Supra and challenged him. The other guy accepted but the Firebird was able to best the guy in the Supra.

I just couldn't accept this. I scoffed at the idea. I said "What?' I immediately asked if the Supra was standard or if it was the 98 Supra which had a 0-60 time of 5.0 flat. I also hinted that perhaps the owner of the Supra really wasn't a great street racer. And though I didn't have all my fastest times for each car, I did strongly feel that the wonderful Supra could best all the other ones. Ok, well maybe not the Grand National. At any rate, we all had a good discussion on these once proud muscle machines. Sad to see them go away.

One other thing. What's the fastest time you've all heard for a new Formula Firebird? Another thing comes to mind. How the hell did the engineers come up with the Grand National and why? What were they thinking. I mean 1/4 mile times in under 9 seconds. Too fast!

GM High tech Performance mag tested a 2002 red:) Camaro SS that ran a 12.97:eek: I also have heard of a few other F bodys (camaro, ta, firebird V8's) in the 12's right out the door at the dealer

I wont say much but I would say that the Camaro will be back in about 2 1/2 years............................;) just wait grasshopper......

Just to clarify, stock GNXs DO NOT RUN 9 second 1/4 miles. Thing is with these turbo cars, they are SO easy to modify. With very minor modifications, I was able to run 13.5's in my Toyota Mr2. With the same modifications on a Supra, you will have 450hp.

There are plenty of Supra's capable of running 9 second quarter miles. Thing is, there are WAY WAY WAY more GNXs that can do the same or much better.

Supra is much more refined and balanced though...and I would never consider the GNX a sports car whereas the Supra definitely is.

Out of the list, if I had to choose, I would go with a Z28 SS (or WS-6), then the GN, then the Supra. Mods for the GN and SS/WS-6 are plentiful and are not very expensive in comaprison to the Supra unless you are going for the "heavyweight" items like a larger turbo or larger motor (I have heard of a 4.1L GN breaking off a TT Supra). I have also see some tricked up Syclones and Typhoons. Another car you failed to mention is the 1989 Turbo Trans Am (T/A with a GN Motor). :D

Then on top of that, no one includes the Impala SS/9C1. C'mon, for a big boat, those things can fly. Why do you think so many cops cried when the 9C1 was discontinued and rejoiced when they could get them rebuilt for less than the cost of a Crown Vic. :D

The Trans Am and Impala SS don't seem to have the fanfare, notoriety or sales of the other well known extinct sports cars. Trans Ams seemed to lose much of its appeal in the 90s. The Grand National has not lost any appeal at all. Lets not even bring up Smokey and the Bandit.

I've wanted to register for a detailing site for sometime now, but haven't until now. I have worked as a lot attendant for a few years now at different dealerships while in college (Mechanical Engineering major). I am no expert by any means, but know enough to keep myself out of trouble. Being a car enthusiast, I decided to join the site to take my knowledge of automotive detailing to the next level. With that I would like to say hello and look forward to learning a lot here.
