HD Champagne Lexus RX300 w/ VM-EXP

This is a 2001 Lexus RX300 I did for my mechanic. He detailed for 10-12 years until he became a mechanic and knows his stuff, but isn't up to date on all the new products. For instance, he uses this uber shiny tire dressing and other stuff, but the detail came out quite nice.

The color is Hi Definition Champagne. It has so much flake, it's scary. I absolutely love the look of it. The exterior was very lightly swirled, but the paint looked pretty good other than that. I used VM/EX-P to bring out the flake and add some wetness to it. My process was:

-Mother's Gold Wash

-Clay Magic Clay

-Mother's Gold Wash

-#82 SFP via Rotary with Meg's Polishing Pad @ 1500rpm

-VM via Rotary with LC Polishing Pad @ 1000 rpm (very light pressure)

-EX-P by MF applicator (hand)

The stuff I used on the tires and wells for him was Gliptone Shineola Max. I've used it before. Lasts a while, but gets a bit sticky after it dries.

Enjoy!

Sean-I know what you mean about VM/EX-P and metallic paint, just unreal appearance! I detailed a Harley Fatboy yesterday (silver metallic) and my son used VM on all the chrome and paint and then EX-P on the tank and fenders. I was detailing their Road King and looked over after he finished and was stunned at how incredible it looked; just amazingly liquid. My son looked and said, "yeah, it looks nice but they probably won't notice." The people came back home after some errands and I mentioned the Fatboy was already finished. They both stopped and stared at it for a few seconds and then started saying how shiny and wet looking it was. Then they noticed the sunlight hitting the tank and his wife said something like 'look at all the metallic, I've never seen it pop out like that before.' I glanced over at my son and he kind of turned away, a silent acknowledgement his old man was right. :lol

Anyway, great job on the RX, that shaded fender shot make the paint look like it hasn't stopped flowing and dried yet!

Oh yeah, there won't be any pics of either Harley. I was having some work done on my car and forgot to grab my camera out of it and put it in my Dad's car that I borrowed. :(

Sean, killer job on the RX, from one RX detailed to another, you really made that bad job shine! Is he having you do the cars he finishes working on as a final touch of service? If so thats pretty darn cool. Looks great, and definitely know what you mean about the flake and clear wetness of vm and EX-P...

Thanks for all the compliments!

bunmango: Each pad has it's benefits. The LC has a nice strong velcro back and is easy to center on the buffer. The Meguiar's pad is softer (cuts the same though), it washes out easier, but has a weak velcro back (peels a lil from the pad) and is almost impossible to center. I finally got it centered and I traced it's outline for the future :D

Scott: The VM/EXP combo really makes the paint come alive. I see it more and more as I look at the before and afters. I'm really loving this combo. Gotta order some VM now (been using a sample). Wish I coulda seen the Harley...BTW: Have you given my ProBuff a try?

BlueRanger: He's starting with just his cars. He's been my family's mechanic since I was born (roughly 21 years). He trusts me a lot and that's the reason he chose me to do it for him. Like I said, he did it for 10-12 years, mostly on the side, now it's soo hard for him to have someone else do it. I use the products he wants me to and suggest new ones too. Right now, I have his 625hp 1973 Camaro to do next week and his dad's Crown Victoria in the near future. He has customers asking all the time about detailing, so my name will be passed on.

On another note, there are 7 cars in my household. We have given him an immense amount of business. Now it's the "one hand washes the other" deal. :)

Sean-I don't do a lot of one steps, but I have a customer who wants me to wax his Suburban and DTS (he leases them) and really doesn't care about me polishing them out too much. I tried some on his trunk lid by hand last week and it looked pretty good so I am going to use it on his cars next week when he has me wax them.

BTW, I have your package boxed and ready to go but have been so busy I haven't been able to get to the post office!

Yeh, definately let me know how it goes with the ProBuff.

I was gonna eMail you, but I figured it was a busyness reason. I totally understand :)
