I just purchased a new vehicle and am thinking about having xzilon applied both inside and out. The company that manufactures the product, http://www.xzilon.com/ boasts that it’s guaranteed for 5 years for new vehicles and 3 for used. I have searched high and low on the web trying to find out customer comments or other info but have only found pages from the manufactures site. I did find a couple of other forums that had only a few comments regarding the product.

Does anyone have any first hand info on this stuff or other comments you could share? I made an appointment for next Tuesday, 1/18 to have this applied. It’s pricey, (like 800 bucks) but this is my first new vehicle ever and want to keep it nice for as long as possible. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Congrats on the new car. It's nice to see that you are looking to keep it protected. However, I highly doubt you will find anyone here that will believe any product that claims five years worth of protection.

Why does the car being used make the guarantee drop by two years?? That seems kind of odd. I have seen used cars with better looking paint than new cars.

I think you should skip this scam @ $800 and spend a few less $$ to get you some quality products. Then do a lot of reading/learning. Then you can keep it protected yourself.

Nothing is going to last five years. I suggest you read the fine print on this "protectant" and see just how much is involved besides the intial coat.

:welcome to DC, akranger!! & Congratulations on the new car!!! :)

I have never heard of Xzilon, but I have serious doubts that any product can protect your finish for 5 years.:nono I think if you read the "fine print", the warrantee will be voided if you do not bring the vehicle in for regular "refreshing" of the finish (or some other upkeep at additional expense!). :(

When I bought my new CR-V last spring, the dealer was offering the "5 Star" Paint Protection scam - er system - and just like you I did a lot of internet searching, and mostly found "customer" raves on THEIR web-site. I did however find DC where I got a lot of great advice from professionals & hobbyists on how to maintain the car's finish on my own. So I found a new hobby & bunch of great friends. :bigups

Enjoy your new car & I hope to see more of you here on DC!! :)

BTW - That is a "pure profit" item for the dealer & there is a LOT of wiggle room on the price - I got him down to $250 from an initial price of $500!!

I've never heard of theat particular product, but everything I've ever heard or read about these long term paint protectants installed by the dealer or aftermarket shops are that they are a major rip-off.

You could get something like the Klasse twins and a durable carnuba like Megs #16 or Collinte and apply them 3 or 4 times a year and probably have better protection, and save a lot of money.

What does the "guarantee" specifically gaurantee to do or not do? I would think long and hard and do more research before shelling out your 800 bucks.

BTW, what kind of car did you get?

It's a new big yellow H2 :shift

Here's what I found about this stuff on one of their web pages... ???

I'm just trying to do my homework before spending a lot of money. Thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate your comments.

akranger welcome to DC
This is nothing more than a way to make your pockets lighter.

The way that they are making you think that this is a superior product is by throwing out fancy spec #'s from Boeing and Douglas.
Many products can meet and exceed these specs it just that they don't bother to have them submitted for testing (this is normally done to fetch a higher price).
It does not make the product superior it just means it was tested.

Even certain items that were "MIL SPEC" were changed because the govt. found that commercial grade products met the same standards. I know this because I worked in for a company that supplied to both the military and aerospace.

Lastly do you need something that can resist up to 450F.

Sorry end rant

Invest in a good quality sealant (or carnuba) and take the time to read some of the posts and you can keep that finish looking like new for MORE THAN 5 YRS.

Good luck with the new car

The Hydraulic Smoothness was the point where they went from too good to be true, to not true.

Just to add to the responses...

Pure Hype and SCAM.

You could get something like the Klasse twins and a durable carnuba like Megs #16 or Collinte and apply them 3 or 4 times a year and probably have better protection, and save a lot of money.

If you are not inclined to do it yourself, find good local detailer, and have them wax it 2-3 times a year. You'll have better shine AND protection.

Akranger,

I hope the posts pointed you in a different direction. FWIW, I have seen Xzilon priced at $ 495. IMO is it not worth over $ 150 especially when applied to a new car that should call for very little prep work. The profit on dealer sold packages is outrageous. $ 800 is just a wee bit too much for some supposed space age protection.

Sounds a bit like 5*Shine. I mean 5*Whine:boohoo

Have fun with the new ride! :bigups

Sucker #2 here, but only to the tune of $400.

I, too, bought this add-on product when I bought my new Jeep Liberty a few weeks ago. I really didn't want to, but there was a $2,000 rebate that I had not taken into consideration so I figured I'd buy as many add-on items as I could with this "new-found" cashola.

What bothers me...What I was sold was Xzilon being an exterior and interior protectant. We took the Jeep back up a few days after we bought it and 3 hours later they finished applying the product and we picked it up. The interior had no new odor, and I even put my nose directly up against the seat and carpet and could not detect anything. Hmmmm....did they apply anything to the inside? Me thinks not.

I'm going to give Granitize a buzz and ask them some questions about this. I have 2 kids, and I really want to make sure that this extra-super-duper protectant is on the fabric interior.

Believe me, this has been a huge profit maker for new car dealers since around the early '70s. They charge you anywhere from around $400 to almost $1,000 depending on the vehicle and it's nothing but a bottle of polymer sealant that you can buy for $15 to $20 retail and apply yourself.
What they do is apply the sealant to your car the first time and the next thing they do is stuff a bottle of the same product in your hand and tell YOU to put it on your vehicle every 6 months because it's a "booster wax" that will "maintain" their sealant application. In other words, they charge you for 5 years worth of professional detailing but have you waxing your own car!
For $800, you can research sites like Detail City and find out what the best car care products in the world are, buy every one of them that you could possibly need for your car, and still have a ton of money left in your pocket. And your car will have as good or better protection than their ridiculously overpriced "paint sealant treatment". Good thing that you were smart enough to check it out here before shelling out $800 more dollars to those creeps!

Docker,
I would pick up a 32oz bottle of 303 fabric protectant asap and do your carpets and seats. That is the only thing I have used on my 01 MPV with 2 kids now @ 9 & 11 and the interior still looks brand new without any major cleaning required.

PAC sells ......http://www.premiumautocare.com/303hitefagu.html

Hope this helps.

No one in here seems to have used this product and has had a problem with it! How can you say that something is a "rip off" or not a good product if you have never used it! I have had my vehicle treated with the Xzilon for 7 years now and I love it! I spilled a cup of lemonade on my floor the other day and it still beads up the first day it was applied! The warranty is for 5 years on new and used cars, not 5 and 3 years, respectively. Also you do not have to re-apply anything ever! You have the dealer or whoever apply it once and that is it! The warranty states that it will fix "any problems due to the Xzilon treatment" free of charge! How much better can you get?? This is an awesome product and it is not a rip off! If you go to Autozone or where-ever and get Klasse twins stuff and apply if 4 times a year for 5 years, that is 20 time over the next 5 years, that you have to do yourself, and you will not get anywhere near the kind of protection you get with Xzilon and there is no warranty on the stuff! I mean come on! its a no brainer! I love my car treated with Xzilon and I would never regret my decision and I have been around detail shops and car dealers all of my life (my family owns 8 dealerships and a chain of detail shops across Michigan). So next time you start talking about a product you know nothing about and haven't personally use, yet feel inclined to bash . . . DON'T. :rolling

Okay, just saw it. I knew there was some sort of a catch to this post......and here it is.....

I imagined you had a reason to defend these type scams - $$$$$$$ profit. :) Nothing wrong with that or anything, I'll just leave that up to the uneducated masses to waste their money on that stuff. Even if I did apply Klasse 4 times a year for the rest of my life, it would never equal the amount I would spend on the Krylon Molecular Super Glue stuff. :nono
