Hand gun owners....can you carry legally?

Those signs might as well say "Criminals welcome! You will be the only one in here that is armed."

Boy are you preaching to the chior. I totally agree but here in MN, we are a rather liberal state and most people are still uneducated about firearms. They associate carrying a weapon for protection legally as being criminal. People in this state spend more time trying to keep firearms out of the hands of law abiding trained citizen than they do trying to stop criminals from getting guns.

Odds are I would grab my bat...

Huh, even if we use a bat on someone breaking into our house here and injure them we'll be charged. I used to have a FAC but let it lapse after the govt. went on the big firearms registration bandwagon (what a waste of money that fiasco was). It's a joke the hoops you have to jump through to have a handgun here. I'm sure the criminals that smuggle the guns in have all been to classes and registered their weapons. Yeah... right.

That's why at least I carry a nice Columbia River folder in my pocket all the time. It's better than nothing. :sadwavey:

I used to think the same way as some of you about grabbing a bat of knife or whatever....until I actually took the time to take some pistol and gun training. The thing is you have to train with a gun. Not buy it and stick it in a closet. I go to the range ALL of the time and I am always looking for training to improve my techniques.

Id go more often if I could afford it.

Yeah, good to *always* have a few, uhm.. tools.. on you (note tools, plural).

Also good to get trained with whatever you carry. I know, I'm a broken-record on the training thing, but defending oneself is harder than people might expect and a lot of bad guys are proficient in this area.

I found a local reloader that does .380 auto. I bought 1000 rounds. If I did not find him I wouldn't go as much either. LMAO

Oh, not sure if anyone knows but ammo is sky rocketing in price after the end of this month. So if you shoot often you might want to stock up some now.

I understand that and will when I have the time, I guess it's a way to bond with my future father in law. Hell he wants me to go bear and deer hunting with him this fall. As for putting it in the closet it was there or the basement they were the only two places that I had false walls built into my house. Where should I keep it... under my pillow?:nervous:

I wasn't dierecting that at you. ;) Guns are not for everyone, that is for sure. If you don't feel comfortable with the gun the closest is the best place for it, no doubt about it.

There are a bunch of reasons. Here are some articles on it I got from a quick google search.

ammo prices - Google News

Have you looked into reloading yourself? I had a friend that I used to go shooting with years ago that did a lot of reloading. We used to make a day of shooting at the range then go to Dairy Queen for chili dogs and then back to his place to reload what we spent. I don't get to the range as often as I used to so reloading isn't practical for me but it sounds like something you ought to look into...

If I didn't have kids in the house, my .357 would be under my pillow ;) These days it is in a handgun safe in the bedroom closet...

As far as what I have, right now I have a CZ 83. I'm really leaning toward a HK, CZ Rami or Ruger revolver for my next purchase though.

Careful with the Rami. Get the 9mm over the 40. One of my buddies is going to sell his. He bought the .40 and it jammed every time, and he sent it back to CZ...they couldnt fix it and sent him a 9mm one free of charge. We took the 9mm to the range, and it was jamming like crazy too. He took it down and told me he had to sand off a burr. We havent shot it since, it has just left a bad taste in his mouth. An unreliable carry pistol is not acceptable. He has since settled on a .32 caliber Beretta Tomcat, which seems to be reliable. I couldnt get his to jam on me, despite all the reports I've read about them not being reliable.

I said it in my last reply, and I'll say it until I'm blue in the face....Glocks are IT for carry, IMO. Reliable, low maintenance, low priced and pretty darn accurate.

Bob, you got your eyes on a GP100? I just bought myself an old S&W wheelie and I love it.

My Glock has never had a ftf. But neither have my Sig or Colt .45's. I agree with SS, after a few hundred break-in rounds, one ftf is too many and the suspect gun gets adjusted, regulated to range use or sold. I had a Walther PPKs that was great MOST of the time. It had to go.

For me, reloading (.44&.45) hasn't really made it any cheaper, I just get to shoot a whole lot more!

Whatever your ccw choice make sure you go with a comfortable holster. I prefer the Kramer IWB horsehide series but there are a bunch of quality manufacturers out there. If it's not comfy you won't wear it and if you don't wear it you'll sure as poop need it!

Edit: +1 on those GunVaults. I have one of the original smaller ones and it is a great way to secure weapons while allowing really fast accessibility.

My ex business partner reloads. He has all of the equipment. If I had the room to do it I probably would look into it. LOL
