Hammered Black Z06 Corvette Brought Back to Life!! (98 Pictures)

Rick, phenomenal work as always! From the looks of it, the previous owner just didnt know worth a damn how to take care or drive a car?? haha!

Also, been meaning to ask, where did you get your lights from? I have been looking for a new set, my Lowes ones about about to bite the dust and I really like the lighting yours seem to give off. Also, have you put any special bulbs into them or just what they came with? Thanks in advance!

-Billy

Rick great job. I can't believe how bad that car looked once washed. It didnt look all that bad with the glaze on it a few days before.

Now hurry up with the Porsche right up!!!

You make us look bad Rick! Seriously though another fine job and a great write-up. I will be getting some Micro Surface tuf buf wool pads in this week, how do they work on hard clears?

gee i onder why autoweek picked this guy? lol because he is the best!!!!!!! rick outstanding job. that looks like a previous southern auction detail! great work man. can you count all that horsepower in the new shop? glad things are working out for ya!

Fabulous detail !!! "Hammered" was the appropriate word for this exterior. My hat go off to you on this one !!!

PresdntialDtail- Thanks Billy! Some people just have no idea how to take care of a car and could care less how they treat it. I wish I could spend big $$ on a car and not care about it!

As for the lights, I bought them at Lowe's for somewhere around $80 or so last year. The bulbs that come with them are junk, so I put some Sylvania replacement bulbs in them. They're nice lights for not a lot of $$.

Rydawg- No problem Ryan. We'll talk this week...

jdoria- Thanks! The seller said that the buyer was very happy when he saw the car and was surprised it was even the same car.

Jokeman- Thanks Bryan. You got that right... Can't believe how much worse it looked after the wash. I had a feeling it was going to be bad. I hope to have the Porsche write-up done within a couple weeks. lots of pics to sort through!

dsms- Thanks Dave! I really appreciate it coming from a great detailer like yourself.

As for the Tuf-Buf pads, they are awesome. When foam won't do, these pads are great. They work great on hard clears too and leave only very slight marring, which is easily cleaned up. These pads paired with Menzerna 203S is absolute heaven. Cuts like a heavy duty compound and leaves an awesome finish. Let me know if you have any questions once you get them...

bufferbarry- Barry, thanks a lot! Very true... It does kinda remind me of an auction detail (brings back bad memories...). I'm guessing all the HP is somewhere in the range of 1700 or so?

stiffdogg06- Thanks stiffdog!

baseballlover1- Thanks Daniel! So when are you coming to Boston again?

Clean Dean- Thank you very much Dean. I think 'hammered' is an understatement...

dmw2692004- Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the write-up...

EisenHulk- Thanks Esienhulk! You're too kind!

WOW. hard to believe that this paint could be revived . what can be said? :bow:bow:bow it always amazes me that someone could abuse a car like this. it also amazes me that someone would purchase it by the way it looked...at any price :scared:. truely remarkable result in only two days. i really enjoy looking at your work Rick. thanks for posting.

jimmie jam- Thank you very much! I saw the car a few days before and it honestly didn't look too bad. When the seller told me that it had just been glazed, I had a feeling it was going to be bad once it was stripped... The new owner saw it indoors after it had been glazed and I'm sure he would have refused the car if he saw it looking so bad. It was definitely lots of work for only 2 days, but luckily I was able to pull it off. Lots of Red Bull!

rick, i would have never believed that car could be brought back without a whole new paint job! can i come hang out with you this winter and you teach me a few things??

I have been thinking about this lately, do you guys charge like a "rush" fee to get the car in and out fast for customers if they want it done? If so, whats an appropriate amount to charge extra? Doesnt have to be dollar, but like twice your hourly, etc??

Flawless Image- Thanks! It is pretty hard to believe...

You are more than welcome to come hang out!

PresdntialDtail- It all depends on who it is I guess. Normally I don't charge any extra. I try to take care of my clients the best I can and give them quality work at a great price. This particular customer really appreciated it and gives me lots of work, so it all works out in the end. I always tell my customers that I'll take care of you if you take care of me. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't... I ended up taking 2 vacation days from my regular job just to get this done in time.

Once in a while a job will take longer than expected. If it does, I will tell the customer that it was more work than I originally thought, but the price is still the same. They usually really appreciate it and give you extra $$ anyway. Sometimes not so much! That's just the cost of doing business I guess.

im sure equipment and products have alot to do with it, but your level of skill is what makes the difference between a detailer and a DETAILER! you did the damn thing bud! ha

Great job dude, your posts always inspire me so much. This has me a little excited for a black Z0 i am going to be fixing when the customer is ready. I washed it the other day to see how bad it was and eeeeeeeeeek, i don't know how he sleeps at night...here is a preview.
