Habits that make us true Autopians

A comment from another post made me think of this.

In your mind, what detailing habits (bizarre ones) make us true, totally anal, Autopian detailers?

1) We remove the wheels to clean both sides and the wheel wells.

2) To vacuum, we remove the seats

3) Use leaf blowers to dry the car

4) Use two buckets to wash and at least 3 mitts depending on which region we are washing

5) Have more car towels than people towels in the house

6) Pay more attention to the laundry than our wives to ensure no softener gets on those MF towels

7) Ignore weather reports - even if it rains tomorrow; it'll be clean today.

8) Don swim trunks to wash the car in the rain

9) Have over $300 of car cleaning products (would have $300 more if we could hide it from the wife.)

10) Have no problem getting up 2 hours early or staying up 2 hours late to wash or detail the car

Others?

I'm known as the "detail guy" around .......... Boston! Even if I can't do a perfect job, people hype me up and stuff, they make it seem as if I could detail a car from the junk yard to "like new" condition. I guess when they see a little it seems like alot.

Research and do the Bucket Wash method when in drought mode.

Although there is an automatic car wash 1 block away.

- When you are sitting at a traffic light cleaning the interior glass

- Even though the weather is too lousy to do an exterior detail, you do an interior one instead

...guilty of both counts :D

12) To be up in the middle of the night in a dark bathroom, sitting painfully inside a cold bathtub while churning a laundry-washer full of microfiber towels... later to be laughed at your girlfriend.

(Thats what William420 did! :D)

HAHAHAHAHHA. Almost fell out from my chair. BW, that really cracked me up. :D Now, don't get me started on your infamous

car drying technique!

I'm happy you did read my review on the Power Wash'N'Dry. I deleted that review about 24 hours later to save the bandwidth on autopia, since I felt too much pictures were posted. I was planning to shrink the review a bit with less pictures, but never got around to it (couldn't find my draft copy). :)

- spend hours on end trading detailing tips with Autopians to research the best ways to detail your ride -- we're all guilty of that!:D

- You can name 5 different waxes, and the size and color of the containter, but cant remember your Anniversary.

- Trips to Linens-n-Things with the wife are now welcomed.

- You will not let a car dealership wash your car, but you'll let them change out a motor or transmission.

- You have favorite parking places at every single location you visit, with alternate spaces in mind even before you get there.

-You drive 2 miles out of your way to miss road constuction

-you stop traffic behind and wait for the other oncoming lane to clear so you can avoid water in the road

_you park your car and sit in a seat inside a resturant so you can make sure no one harms the car

- While walking down the parking lot or driving you try and catch the sun on different vehicles to see the swirls.

- When driving past the local automatic carwash you roll down your window and yell "BOOOOOOOOOOO"

- People you know begin taking on your obsession and asking you for advice

- You can't walk into a store without finding something that you might use for detailing

Will wash your vehicle, and it is so cold out, that the water freezes you can get it dry, and then starts sprinkling snow, and the neighbors just shake their heads.... Go through the store rubbing towels on face, if it scratches face, will scratch car, detail lawnmower....

Amen, brother! LOL you guys crack me up. lolol I just sit here and read the posts and nod as I scroll down. I'm laughing so hard people are poking their heads around the corner to see what's so damn funny. LOL I don't think they get it.

oh yeah forgot

how bout, you walk through the parking lots backwards cause you're staring at how nice your car looks as you walk away from it

you break out the microfiber towel on the dash at stoplights

today, I actually slipped up and said the word "towel" instead of tower :p

-all my co-workers feel the need to report Monday morning whether or not they washed their cars over the weekend.....thinking I'll actually be interested. Actually, I am interested.. hehe

-I sleep early on Fridays to get an early start on detailing my cars Saturday.

-Autopia is the only place I can be truthful about how much time I spend on my cars without any embarrassment.

LOL RH! I can definitely relate to that one! It doesn't matter that I'm overstocked on towels. I just wanna go check them out!

This is great!

Intermezzo... Autopia is really a "support group" of sorts, isn't it???

I'm also guilty of:

- Making a U-turn, and taking a different street to get to my final location so I wouldn't dry my car into a road dip filled with H20.

- Like so many others, being caught by coworkers looking out at my car.

- Being the car care expert among friends & coworkers
