Some of you jsut aren't being fair. After a stretch of cold, bad weather, a warm sunny day happens and everyubody's at the car wash. Imagine if everyone brought a bucket and spent an hour in each bay for their whopping two dollars.

If you wanna take your time and spit shine, go at night when the old guy (what was he, like 50?) is at home.

You assume that its being done when theres a line of people, old guys always complain ( old is anything older than 40 or older than you at the time) I consider myself old over 40 :D

I go to those car washes and take a bucket. Last time I went the guy that runs the car wash saw me using a bucket. He stopped and watched me for a bit but didn't say a word. If he had said something to me I was ready to tell him that I probably spend more money doing a bucket wash than if I used their stuff only. Its the truth too

I wasn't going to hold anyone up. If there had been a line I would not have done it. There are three bays, and only one was in use. The lineup was actually at the touchless automatic wash they have.

Guys,

It's his car wash. The owner makes the rules and has very right to enforce them as he sees fit. He doesn't owe any OCD Detailer (like me) anything. If you were using a bucket and he requested that you not do so, that's it.

Do I use a bucket while I'm in the carwash stall? Nope. I do a coin op wash and pull my truck out of the stall and finish up with QEW.

If you don't want to be "yelled at", follow the rules.

By the way, I'm an "old guy", age 64. I've used coin ops in the winter for over 45 years. :D

As stated, I'm fine with his rule, I just hadn't noticed the sign. It was funny though, he was the perfect proverbial "crotchety old guy". He was probably about 70-75 with a very gruff, sour looking demeanor. And I could tell just the way he looked at me that he thought of me as some snot nosed 16 year old punk (I'm 32).

Are you sure he is the owner? It's entirely possible he's just some crotchety old guy with a chip on his shoulder from being told not to bucket wash back when he was a your age.

"coin-operated" car wash

Yeah but physically what is it, a hose connected to a coin operated meter or what exactly?

I'm in the UK and we just don't have those, we have petrol stations with drive through rotary car washes and coin operated jet-washes, and closed down petrol stations that have been taken over by people with buckets of dirty water, sponges and rags.

It's HIS property, HIS business and HIS rules, period. If you don't want to follow the rules, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE. Guess what? HIS rules at HIS business do not have to make sense to you. Don't like it? LEAVE.

Maybe the old man has enough money and doesn't need to deal with snot-nosed punks. Do you know what that's called? It's known as F.U. Money. It's the kind of money that lets him say, "F.U."

If there isn't another place, plunk down $200,000 and build your own car wash so you can deal with idiots breaking your rules. If you can't afford your own heated garage in winter or have to live in a rented an apartment where you can't wash your car (those RULES again), quit bitching, quit spending all your free time arguing about which wax is best and get a better job.

Then you can buy your own freakin' house with a heated, plumbed garage with a drain in the floor so you can wash your car any time you want. ****, you may even have enough money to buy a car that's actually worth detailing. What am I saying??!!?? You will NEVER make enough money to afford a house and garage because you don't have a basic understanding of PRIVATE PROPERTY, and you certainly couldn't run your own business.

No repect for other's property, no respect for other people and IQs approaching my shoe size.

What's the difference between a snot-nosed 16 year old who doesn't follow the rules and a 32 year old who doesn't follow the rules?

Answer: There's a chance the 16 year old can learn to follow rules!

Self service or coin-operated car washes are typically a series of stalls with high ceilings on which are mounted articulated hoses that have a trigger operated nozzles. In some areas, the stalls may have one or two electric doors to shut out wind or weather.

There is a wall mounted control panel that accepts coins. The time of operation is determined by the amount of money deposited. The contriol panel also has a selector switch which enables the user to select betwen options such as low pressure soak, high pressure soap wask, rinse, spot-free rinse, etc.

Most of the Coin Op's I've gone to don't mind if you bucket wash as long as there's not a line. In Michigan, around this time, it's pretty hard to find one. Imagine if you were waiting in line behind someone that was bucket washing their car, would it upset you? The owner could be trying to protect other customers from not getting upset and going somewhere else. Owners realize that if you loose a customer, you will probably never get them back. No matter how much money someone has, it dosen't give them the right to be rude up front. Firm and straight forward - yes, but money doesn't buy some people class. If this place is that important for you to wash at, just keep the cycle running with money and do what ever the heck you want. Every time that I use a coin-up, I bucket washed and never had a complaint when I fed the meter money.

Are you by chance a 70 year old guy that runs a coin op car wash?? Allow me to kneel at your feet and thank you for bestowing your vast wisdom to us poor, mentally deficient human beings. :bow

Acknowledging your deficiency is a good first step.

I'll think of you when detailing my cars in my 36' X 30' insulated and heated garage.

Oh. Well that's definitely not something I recall seeing over here, but then I'm lucky in having a drive and access to a hose etc. so don't pay too much attention to car washes.

I tend to see it as his business so his rules, and personally I'm the sort that if I saw the guy there would probably have asked "do you mind if...".
