Got another tricky one! HELLPPP!

Ok, I am working on a BLACK Honda S2000. It was in rough shape when I got it, hit it with SIP/White and SIP/Orange on the hood/trunk. Car looks great, of course minus some hologramming. So I get all the way through my detail, mind you I cautiously looked at it with halogens with every panel..anyways It starts getting dark and Im almost through only to realize there are holograms still on every panel!!!

Now I have tried everything in my book and still cant seem to get the holograms out of the car! This is like the 5th or 6th black s2k I have done and havent had this problem AFTER using po85rd with black AND blue pads, nothing is working!

The process used is

SIP/White/Orange

106fa/White

po85rd/Black/Blue

STILL HOLOGRAMS!! AHH!

The wierd part about this is that these holograms were not visible until hours later, now the weather has been a bit finicky throughout the whole detail, could this be a problem? Its about 86% humidity here(in FL) and chilly outside. None of my polishes have been breaking down like normal and have been a REAL pain to wipe off no matter if I work them long or short. When I first started I was having the problem with the SIP drying up and "rolling up" and flinging off...can anyone fill me in on what I should do next?

Some images for you guys..

Before I touched the car..

After SIP/106fa/po85rd(thing going down hood is a plane, not hologram)

Now there are holograms all of a sudden! This is every panel.

Try the 85RD again, but prepare that it won't be a quick process. Use lower RPMs than usual and lift the machine a bit. Basically the pad should just barely touch the panel; as you should significantly reduce the weight of the machine on the pad.

I know what you're talking about; those black Hondas are sometimes a huge PITA and this was quite an understatement.

If you have FPII in your arsenal, use that!

unfortunately, all I have is 85rd and I have already tried multiple techniques as you mentioned.

I did 1000-1200-1000 while lifting as you said, stil no luck! This thing has me so stressed! haha!

I'm going to catch *alot* of flack for saying this, but here goes: PO85RD, PO106FF, PO106FA are all trash on soft paints. Oh, throw 1Z Hoch Glanz in that list, too.

I'm sure there's alot of guys out there with the mad skillz necessary to get those polishes to finish out holo-free on soft paints, but I'm not among them.

You need somethng like Ultrafina or Final Polish II to really get the grams out of soft paint. Used with a zero cut pad, I have yet to see a paint too soft to finish out gram free with UF. Same with FPII, but FPII has no bite to it.

Edit: before I burst into flames, I should probably add that I use and love each of the polishes in the above list. Just not on really soft paints.

If you're stuck with only having the PO85RD, I'd consider trying to remove the grams with the 85rd and a PC. You'll get a better finish with a PC and 85rd on soft paint than you will with a rotary, IMO.

Thanks alot Superbee! The car is supposed to be delivered today, unfortunately I do not have said UF or Final Finish II OR a PC readily available. The customer DOES know whats going on and I have shown him the problem I am having. I may just have to give it to him today as it is, order some UF and go back at it once it comes in...

No worries, man... I feel for ya. I had to deliver a black Acura with holograms all over it to a customer a few weeks ago. Sucks. :(

Just spoke with customer, he is fine with taking delivery of the car now and having me finish it once I get the new polishes in. Look likes I will be ordering all three 3M products! :D

Thats my idea too ,no cut pad with ultafina. Alot of the time on super soft paints its the pad that leaves the halograms.

This has got to be by far the softest paint Ive worked on, and Ive done atleast 5 or 6 of this EXACT car! Anywho, I gave up, tried everthing in my book. Im going to order the 3m line and go back at it with that.

Speaking of 3m, where can I get the UK stuff? Ive found polished bliss, but are there any US sites with it already in stock? Im looking for all three polishes ANd the corresponding pads. Thanks!

Yeah, isn't it wild how variable Honda paint can be? Just when you think Honda is starting to make harder paint, you get one that is just stupid soft.

I don't get the UK versions of UF, just the US stuff, part number 06068. I get it from levineautoparts.com.

3M Perfect-It 3000 Ultrafina SE 1 Quart

Here's the pads, but they are the big ones. I just use red six inch Edge wave foam, but the 3m ones work well if you don't mind big pads...

Is there a difference between the US and UK line?

Whats the difference between these two? typo?

LOL! i wondered the same thing, so I ordered them both! :) One is dished out where the backing plate goes, the other is just flat. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the pads. I like my LC's and Edge's just as well, if not better.

As for the polishes, there were a few threads about the differences between the UK and US versions a while back... Someone actually emailed 3M about it, and got two different responses. One said there was no formula difference, the other said there was, due to different VOC requirements.

But I can tell you that I *love* the US version of UF. I don't use the other 3M polishes, though.

Hmm...well its $78 to have the UK Ultrafina and 2 UK 6" Perfect-it III Finishing Pads. I guess I will give the UK stuff a shot, and when I run out Ill try the US stuff?? haha!

My local NAPA carries it, too, but it's much more expensive than from levineautoparts.com. NAPA wants 60 bucks a quart.

S2000's are tough. I do disagree with Supe to some extent that 106ff/fa/8rd are trash on them, but I do know where he is coming from. All of them do some filling and as the oils evaporate you see the hologramming they have left behind. I do think you can finish clean with 8rd and a blue pad, but it's a pain in the butt and usually not worth the time. The trick, as Supe mentioned in his first post, is to get some FPII or Ultrafina. I prefer FPII, but I may be alone on that one.

Alternatively you can try a DA, but that's just giving up. :D

Sorry, Picus, but you're not allowed to disagree with me. ;)

Seriously, though, you're one of those guys with the mad skillz needed to get those polishes to finish out perfect on soft paint. I just didn't want to use your name specifically, cause you tend to get a big head too easy. :D

Everytime I think I'm a stud, and get one of those polishes to finish down on a soft paint, I end up getting another one I just can't get to finish down on.
