Getting a little burnt out on detailing

I too got burned out on the free details for friends/family(glad i didn't do too many at least), but i'm glad i did it because it helped build records for my portfolio and one of those free details turned into what has been now another regular client that pays for a monthly maintenance detail on her truck.

Take a small vacation, drive it down here, we can have a mini-detail weekend :D
Then sit by the pool and eat.

Hi, this is my first post here, so let me introduce myself. My name is Lisa, I am from Pa and I too am burned out. I am not a pro, by any stretch of the imagination, but I like to keep my Jeep, my husbands Subaru and my sons Jeep looking great---inside and out. Since April I have been detailing or buying more products that I really don't need---all in the sake of trying to make the three cars look perfect. This past weekend was perfect to get the last of the LSP's on all three cars---and I didn't want to do it. That is a first. next weekend I will finish up and pack up most of my products--leaving out ONR, and a few other products-----and cleaning up the garage.

The best thing that could happen for all of us would to be able to team-up with someone who likes to do this too, and split the workload..
Perhaps it can happen for someone out there - I hope so...

I just found out my website domain name got sent to ERP or whatever that is, because a payment went by only a few days delinquent, and the idiots (webs.com) are holding it for ransom, and even if I pay the ransom, there is no guarantee I can get it back..

I am mad at them because they sent notices to the old internet address I had (that the Ex disconnected), and didnt even try to call or text me..
I have had that domain name for almost 10 years... I am starting to dislike the geeks that run this stuff more and more...

All those great pics are gone, but I have them luckily in my laptop H/D...

So... speaking of geeks...

If you missed your renewal date your domain normally goes into a holding period. In other words, it's still owned by the registrar (in your case, enom.com) and they're holding it for you to renew. Check your whois info at the link below and you can see that they're holding it. (Not going to post a direct link even though anyone can type it in and see the info.)

https://www.namecheap.com/domains/whois.aspx

Sadly, the best way to resolve this issue isn't exactly something that you will like. The easiest path is to pay what they ask (you can try to negotiate but, like everything, it may or may not work.) Your second option is to sit it out and hope they release it in 30-60 days and you can re-register the domain with (preferably) a different registrar. If you do choose to sit it out, you may want to look into another domain from a different registrar and, once you have the .com back you can simply redirect the .org/.net/.xyz/.whatever to the .com. The way it looks (I had a peak at webs.com) and sounds to me is that you got the whole package deal from them and you may be stuck with footing the bill. I won't get into all the technicalities of that but that's my two cents.

I'm not trying to sound rude or like I'm attacking you but, this is why you need to make sure your information is kept up to date. You should also always keep at least one up-to-date backup of the entirety of your site. Hosts aren't always perfect and they sometimes crash/get hacked/etc. and lose data. Not a big deal if you've got a backup or two. (Same goes for those pictures on your laptop, IMO, one backup on the laptop is not enough.) A good, rugged (whether store bought or homemade) flash drive is a great option for most people seeing as they can be pretty waterproof. Since they're solid state drives you also have less to worry about if it gets banged around a little in storage. If a flash drive (AKA: thumb drive, pen drive, USB drive, USB stick, and so on) is not for you, at least pick up a good external hard drive (could also choose a SSD external). As a side note, if you are mobile and have no store front, I would strongly recommend purchasing WhoisGuard with whatever domain you register. You'll understand once you run your domain.

I have never used an all-in-one package for hosting/registrar services and never will. That way if I am unhappy with the host I can transfer hosts, if I'm unhappy with the registrar I can transfer registrars. I will say that I have used namecheap for almost every domain I have ever registered and have never had an issue (though I have not used them since their update and am unsure if it's still under the same ownership. It's been a few years since I seriously ran a site.) If you do choose to transfer domain/s and/or hosting services, a lot of sites offer it free of charge (especially domain transfers).

Anyway, since this entire topic is off-topic you can PM me if you need any other help. I'm not a professional and haven't seriously ran a website in 5+ years but I'll try to help you with what I can and/or redirect you to somewhere you can find the help you need.

A while back someone started a thread either here or AG asking -Do you treat your daily driver like a garage queen-

Once you liberate yourself in that regard it becomes enjoyable again.

I'm still guilty as charged but I don't drive too much since I work from home. The daily driver sits pristine in the garage.

But what's the difference, really? IMO if you do this stuff right the beaters turn out like showcars and simply stay that way (note that my daily dog-haulers get used *HARD*, including Ohio winters); if the garage queens leave the garage at all (note that my '85 Jag and the '01 S8 both have ~20K miles) something can/will happen and then they're imperfect forever. So the two categories are basically the same in my case. I guess a *trailer* queen would be a different story, but I figure we're talking vehicles that actually get used on the road.

OK- some of my beaters were so trashed when I bought them that they'd need $10K repaints to be truly nice by Autopian standards (or a frame-off job for the Tahoe). But I don't want them to get worse.

OK#2- Accumulatorette transports kids/infirm elderly/pets in her ('00, 150K) A8 so it does suffer occasional cosmetic damage, some of which just can't be fixed. But it'd take a concours judge to spot most of it and again, we don't want it to get worse as it needs to last her the rest of her life.

So what's the real difference? Not like I'm gonna neglect to do something (like detail the undercarriage) or do something incorrectly (like instill wash-induced marring) on *any* vehicle I have. Just goes against my grain to do something, anything, incorrectly. But that doesn't mean I have to *enjoy* life's chores, just gotta do them.

I am find myself also in a funk lately with detailing. I have so much money in Qd, waxes, towels I will never use them. The only thing I would like is a Griots 6"HD polisher to maybe perk me up :)
I have been looking at Advanced Auto with their coupon but like I said in a funk :(

Maybe Ebay will have one to help me out of this with cooler weather coming I have to get my butt in gear....

I love being a car care enthusiast. It's what makes me happy. I'm spending my time and energy how I want to. I'm sure there are people out there who would rather me spend my time saluting a statue of Kim Jong-un, but luckily I have the freedom to spend my time doing what I want. :USA

My car is worth a lot more to me than its resell value, and I prefer taking care of the things I own. My abuelo (grandfather) always used to tell me to stay clean and smell nice and someone will notice :).

I think you should always have a hobby to turn to when you're in a funk. For some people it's golfing or fishing or painting, but for me it's putting on my headphones and making a car look like new again. I like the challenge each car brings.

Yep. That is why mine is still dirty. Just busy with life. No time for it. Have to get it done tho. Sometimes, you just need a break. And take it, don't muddle through it. Even if it a couple weeks. You will feel better and went to get back to it

Why not a Flex 3401 instead. What are you using now? A GG6. Isn't a heavy duty just a different cord?
