funny brake noise..

As my Autopia name says, I drive a top of the line quality made Ford that could put japanese and german cars to shame (LOL). And I've read some articles of this car having some brake issues. I'm hoping I'm not one of those poor souls who had landed on a Focus with brake issues.

Well, here's the thing. I've noticed recently that my rear brakes (drum brakes) have been giving me this noise in the morning (aside from the brake dust squeal). It sounds like if you have a cardboard box and push it across the floor sound. This happens especially on monday mornings since during the weekend, Mr. Lemon is not being used. The noise goes away after a few miles of driving. Any idea what it is? Is it just dirt from the road? or just a case of brakes not being used?

Welp, thanks guys. My 35000 mile oil change is near that's why I'm trying to collect as much info as possible. Next time I get a car, it's going to be a Hyundai Tiburon.. If it starts screwing up, at least I like the looks of it.

Oh boy heres another case. If you do decide to take it to a shop make sure that it is a very trusted family mechanic or knowledgeble shop in your area. If not they will tell you that in order to check the rear drums they will have to replace them. There is a very delicate ABS sensor on the drum that is often broken, so instead of the mech. taking the blame for being too rough, they pawn the replacement drum assembly off on you. Heres a link that might suprise you.

And if you have any questions about TSB...(technical service bulletins)

The noise is not one Ive heard in my experience so take it to a shop and have them take a look. Good luck!

Yeah, I've read the focus brake problem website before. That's why I'm hoping it's just moisture or dirt left to sit overnight. Thanks for the link about the TSB.!!

Freaky thing is, it does sound like what those guys are talking about.

Ejant,

The wheels don't grab... or as far as I've observed (heard).
