Foam bonnet.... How abbrasive?

I will be buying a PC shortly. Some lake county pads a little later. I already got, however a Chicago electric rotary. I learned by reading that the included "wool" pads are a NO NO with any tool.

A good chance to practice with the rotary in an oxidized car will be present next weekend. However, I only have what came with the rotary (wool and terry bonnets). In addition, I have a yellow foam turtle wax bonnet. It is a soft plush bonnet.

Just for curiosity, how abbrasive should I consider this bonnet? Cutting, polishing, finish? I assume that no mater how mild the foam may be, a rotary is a rotary.... the only difference wil be how fast.

What can you tell me?

Thanks

Can't really tell about the TW foam as I'm not familiar with it, and since you're not getting any responses, I guess nobody else is either. I'd just go to an auto paint/body supply place and get some foam pads of known quality. You don't want to add some unknown variable into the mix when getting acquainted with a rotary ;)

Alex, like Accumulator said I doubt if anyone can help you on that. You should be able to find some Meg's or 3M pads locally, here are links to Meg's and 3M that will locate a store near you. On the Meg's site select "Meguiar's Professional Products" or it will bring up all the Wal-Marts, Targets, etc.

I don't have a choice. Unlike many of you, I can't just get in the car and drive to Autozone or PepBoys.... Heck, we felt "high tech and civilized world" when my hometown installed the first traffic lights in downtown main square a few years ago ;)

I asked because my next trip north will be after I help this neighbor with the car.... I just didn't want to miss the chance to try the rotary :nixweiss

Edit: In case you didn't see, I live outside of the USA. Getting things here is a little more difficult.... ;)

Alex Ruiz-I saw that you're from Amecameca but I am not familiar with it so I didn't know what you might be able to get locally- sorry to have made the wrong assumption.

I'd still wait, the rotary isn't something you want to take chances with, you could do some irreparable damage in no time. Take it slow and easy, you'll be glad you did.

Thanks. I'll follow the advice. :up

My homwtown (Amecameca) is located in the beautiful country of MEXICO. And when I say we felt "high tech" after the first traffic lights were placed, I am not kidding ;)

I'll wait as needed until my next trip to the USA. Being patient is a virtue I hear.....

Heh heh, yeah, I've heard that too ;) but it doesn't make waiting any easier, huh?

Is there some UPS/etc. delivery service to your area that would help you do things via mailorder/the internet? Might make it easier for you than coming to the states and having to take your detailing supplies back with you.

I travel quite often because of work. So, I just need to wait for the next trip. Shipping packages is insanely expensive, not to mention that customs is a real pain.... :(

I prefer to take things back with me.

Hey, I am so good at taking things back with me that I even got my wife from the USA...... :up
