Finally - wax residue removal product that works

a concentrated mixture of dawn and a toothbrush works for me. if dawn is able to strip wax off the paint, it should work on your trims too.

Nobody willing to spend a few pennies and try the erasor? I couldn't believe it when I first heard about it either but, I am a firm believer in using the least harshest thing first and moving up only when necessary. Everyone preaches that for paint but, I really believe it should apply to everything on our cars. There really is no nead for chemicals to remove dried wax from black plastic trim. Seriously, just spend the pennies and pick up one of those white office erasors chunks and give it a quick try, you will be amazed at how easily it removes wax from your plastic and rubber trim even trim with a pattern to it. I am talking even Zymol baked on in the hot florida sun, the hardest stuff known to man :)

Does using the eraser also tend to dull the apearance of the plastics?

Jon

Not at all! I have been using it on my 01 Mustang GT for the past year and 2 years before that on my 98 Contour when I first heard about it here on Autopia.

You will find though that the tar and wax removers WILL dull your plastic parts. That is why Restore to Black is such a great seller. You need it after you ruin your trim with the harsh chemicals :)

this stuff is widely available. I know our local Ace Hdwe has it and I have seen it in the hardware section of Walmart.

Peanut butter DOES work, but scrubbing with a toothbrush is mandatory, and it may take a couple cycles to get it all off. I will def try this stuff next summer though...it might be easier than the butter.

Haven't seem any mention of Wax Blaster, has anyone tired it and if so is it any good? [/QUOTE

I purchased some from CMA when I was in FL over the holidays. I'll give a report on it tomorrow, when I try to remove some stubborn wax residue from my Suburban.

I picked up some Magic Rub white eraser's today at Staples, tried it on a wax stains on some of the hard platic molding near my windshield wipers and it worked GREAT!. Took the wax stains right out in seconds. Would have liked to play around a little more with it but it's only 7 degress out. :bounce

noxen,

I find 3M products at a couple of local auto paint and body repair supply stores. Check your yellow pages for auto paint, and go from there.

The only downside is that the supply stores usually carry quarts, which may be more than you want. Check to see if they can order smaller sizes for you . . .

buy one of those white erasors, the kind that is a block shape.

Block shape? Aren't there white mechanical pencil erasers?

Seems a pencil eraser would work better in hard to reach areas than a block eraser.

This would be the stuff, right?
