Finally - wax residue removal product that works

I was wondering if there were any recogmended products to use after using the 3m remover to bring back a nice clean look....like the rubber/vinal protectant

Jon

All your fave protectants will work. Or you could use a dye like Forever Black for a more permanent look.

For the past couple of weeks I've been using Back to Black, and am pretty happy with it. Poorboy's Natural Look has also worked for me.

Works great - used it on my Trailblazer - followed up with Mother's BACK-TO-BLACK. Looks better than new. Thx for the Tip.

Aint it great how older threads come back to live and help people who searched for the info........................

The 3m stuff does what it says.........Great on windows before applying aquapel too.........

I always have a can of that and a citrus based tar and bug remover............

carguy,

Yea, the 3M cleaner is great for removing old wax. I recently used it to prepare the painted surface prior to application of a clear bra. This is the recommended prep for allication of the 3M film.

Cheers.

I was just commenting this on another thread, I picked that stuff up at Kmart, on clearance for .62 for 10 oz. :xyxthumbs

I have some bkack to black arround, I used it a few times. But after a while, it all came back worse.

And im currious...what penut butter yall use, is it b/c of the oils?

Jon

I had posted, a few days back, a complete solution to take care of trim from Einzsett. Their product I use to COMPLETELY remove those stains is the Acrysol, an equivalent to that 3M product.

You use it followed by the Vinyl treatment and you have a great looking trim!

I have used this product for this purpose and would caution on using it on window and top gaskets as it seemed like it was disolving and making the ones on my vette extremely soft. It did work great on the hard plastic surfaces. BTW i just ordered a sample pack of MFs from Vapor Clean. I'll let you guys know how they are. Although I don't see how you can go wrong for $24.95 for 10 towels + $6 shipping.:xyxthumbs

weren't people also using those clicky erasers to remove wax residue as well?

I always have 2-3 white rectangle draftsman type in my detail tray and they work GREAT!

I have been trying to be more careful and not get any wax on the trims but no matter how careful I have been I still get those annoying wax marks on plastic trims. I have been using peanut butter to remove wax residue from plastic parts and so far have no complaints.

Jet - I heard about peanut butter for so long I actually tried some. It does NOT work - it merely hides the wax with oil, just like all the other trim detailers. Aftger a few washes the oil will be gone and the wax residue will be there. The problem with any product that hides wax in any way is that you can not tell whether further work with it will remove the wax. One thing I like about this 3M stuff is that it evaporates almost immediately, leaving a completely oil-free, dry surface behind. If there is wax residue left, it re-appears right away - so you really know when you've gotten rid of it.

After using peanut butter I did not have any comebacks. I always thought the peanut butter actually removes the wax as you wipe it off. But I cannot be sure, it has worked for me so I still keep a small jar of peanut butter in my detailing kit.

I actually just picked up a bottle of this stuff to test out the other day when I was getting some Spray paint.

I'll have to give it a try on wax on trim. I've heard it works but got it for use as an adhesive remove to see how it compares to the other ones I've tried (Goo-Gone, Pro's PRO-Sol).

I would only use chemicals as a very last resort. Here is a tip that will only cost you a few cents and will definitely not hurt your black plastic or rubber parts. Go to an office supply store or probably even WalMart and buy one of those white erasors, the kind that is a block shape. It has to be the white ones as the pink ones won't work. Give it a try, cheap and VERY effective and no where near as harsh as chemicals.

anyone try the aerosol can of that 3m adhesive & wax remover? It's all my local shop had so i picked some up. Haven't tried it yet. I wonder if it does the same job...
