Evo Pricing

While, I did the hardest part of buying a new car, convinced the wife it may be a good idea, can you say gullible? lol. Heres the deal and question, 2008 Mitsubishi evo, with 1000 km on it, never titled, so the dealer says its new. Seems like a demo to me. Sitting on their lot for a year and a half. So rather than talk to the sales rep in the showroom, he wouldn't give me a price on the spot, so I gave him my email address and told him to send me the details. He came back with the BS about how they would save me a bundle by taking $1000 off the MSRP and a great deal on financing. While, I would not be financing, paying for it outright, and was in contact with a dealer in Ontario, I'm in Nova Scotia, btw, who would sell me the same loaded MR model for under $42000. The dealer in Dartmouth offered me the great price of about $49000, before tax. Also btw the car in Ontario had 10 km on it, thats what I consider new. So my question, how low should the dealer go on this car, or with 100 km on it, should I not even bother. Also in 2 trips to the dealer, not another customer in sight either time.

I don't know how it is in canada vs the US, but you can get them for invoice in Cali. Have been able to for years. Any car with that kind of mileage is a demo. This is especially worrisome on an Evo, as you know it has not been babied for those miles or broken in. If it were me, it would take a very good deal, definitely under invoice if at all.

I am sure it is different in canada since this is the first generation Evo that has been readily available there, but still, a year+ old demo car has to take a big hit. New or not, the resale once you buy it is already down significantly.

You could get a solid answer over at evolutionM. There is a canada subsection

MR's have gone for way less in America.

i've seen some MR's bought for around 35kUSD OTD with navi.

and gsr's go for around or a bit under 30.

you can find a better deal.

All cars are much less in the US. I just wish we could get yoour pricing up here, especially when the car comes from abroad to both countries. Not fair.

42000 Canadian dollar is just over 36000 American dollar. So once you factor in the exchange rate it's not that far off the prices here I don't think.

I've had/have two Evos. The general rule of thumb is to never buy a used Evo, or a dealer demo. These cars are usually beaten to a pulp. It's preferable to take delivery of an Evo with as few miles as possible. Both of mine had less than 5 miles on the clock. If it were me, I'd spend a little more and get a car with less mileage. One can safely assume that a good chunk of the 100km was done at full throttle. Good luck.

PS. Don't forget to write "no paint prep" into the sales contract, though it may be too late with a demo.

Which dealer are you in contact with? I work at Autopark Mitsubishi in Burlington, Ontario. I can help you out, shoot me a PM.

Marko.
