Engine Done - Pics

Still getting ready for the show in a couple of weeks. Engine pretty much complete now. My hands need a break that's for sure.

I used:

1. Simple Green - Full strength and 50/50 water to clean.

2. Griot's Rubber Cleaner - on the hoses and rubber parts.

3. Wenol and P21S MFR on the exposed (unpolished) metal and anodized parts (I found out you have to be really gentle when cleaning anodized parts as it comes off pretty easily)

4. Eagle One Nvr-dull wadding polish on the polished parts

5. DACP and AIO on the painted surfaces

Getting a good shine from the underside of the hood took the most work as it was both awkward and needed help. I took the battery out along with the coil and a couple of other fender mounted parts and loosened some bolts to get under others.

I consider myself an engine-cleaning-fanatic!

So coming from me, this is a high compliment.

Your engine bay looks AWESOME!!!!

I believe you have acquired the "Oh-My-Gosh-Factor"....:up

It's what we are all striving for....:xyxthumbs

Thanks Luster and unclearty for the kind words.

SICK...CRAZY these are, on occasion, the words my wife uses in good fun at this hobby. Of course, I was up doing some searching and posting to Autopia a few nights ago...it got to be around 2:30am or so and my wife wakes up, comes into the office and asks me if I have finished reading the entire Internet yet? LOL. You should have seen her face :scared when I told her "no" that I have only been on one site...Autopia...:D

Hey! That's a 968!

Fellow concours-ie type 968 owner here, although I tend to enter

topside only. Looks great!

jgv...I'm supposed to drive this?...oh right, it's a car...I forgot:rolleyes:

Thx Jon...Post a pic, I'd love to see your 968!

Lynn, Thumper & Chris...I appreciate the complements.:wavey

Thanks Bob,

There have been several Porsches that had 4 cylinder motors. My car is the 968.

912: 1965-69 & 1975 - 1.6 & 2.0 ltr engines -- often known as the "poor man's Porsche." The 912 has a small but loyal cult following today.

914: 1970-76 - 1.7 to 2.0 ltr VW sourced engines. Mid-engine car manufactured by Karmann as part of a joint venture with VW. A 2.0 ltr 6 cylinder 911 engine variant was also available from 1970-1972. The 914 has a loyal following with many of these cars showing up in the club racing/DE circles.

924: 1977-88 - 2.0 & 2.5 ltr engines originally sourced from VW and suspension from Audi. Originally a design study for VW and dropped, Porsche decided to produce. A lack luster car in original form the turbo and S versions were small improvements with the Carrera GT & GTS being the real performers of the 924. Derek Bell is often heard saying his favorite race car is the 924 Carrera GTS.

944: 2.5, 2.7 & 3.0 ltr versions of the venerable 4 cylinder designed as "half" of the 928 V8. Truly a well balanced car by all accounts and a success for Porsche in sales volume. Turbo versions can be tweaked to exotic car performance levels. Manufactured in the Audi plant at Necarslum(sp).

968: 3.0 ltr 4 cylinder manufactured on the Werk 5 911 production line in Zuffenhausen. Largest production 4 cylinder ever with 240hp and 225 ft/lbs of torque. Unloved at its introduction and a failure for a Porsche in turmoil in the early 1990s. The 968 is often now characterized as one of the best balanced sports cars ever made.

Of course the 911 and its 6-cylinder heritage is considered by some to be the only true Porsche and is a great classic in all its forms.

Well, that was way more information than you wanted...:o

Cheers,

Russ

:xyxthumbsWow! Super job on the engine detail!

That engine bay would even put the sickest of us

to shame. I'm totally impressed by your attention

to every detail.

russ968,

You're in Mountain View... I'm in Walnut Creek ! I'll pay you to do that to my car. It's got twice as many cylinders, but still a Porsche !

WOW !!!

Rob

All I can say is WOW!:bow

I was looking at your pic and thought, that looks familair. Now I know why. I just did a red 968 and have a pic of the engine bay sitting on my desk and it looks NOTHING like yours. Great job.

Question, I thought that the area covering the header pipes and the area with the PORSCHE lettering, that is red on yours, was some sort of plastic covering. Maybe I am confused, but I swore it was. Can you enlighten me on the fine points here?

Great job man. I am envious. I hope my client doesn't see your job online and yell at me!

Sam

Rob, or any Bay Area Autopian for that matter, if you're around next weekend, Sunday, head over to Carlsen Porsche and say hello at the PCA event.

Sam, I think the parts you're referring to are the intake manifold, fuel rail cover and cam cover. They're an aluminum alloy casting and have a pebble type finish from the factory and can look a little plastic like and are hard to clean. I had them polished and I painted the Porsche lettering.

Thanks for the complements!
