Looking to pick on of these up.... Hoping some light can be shed on new vs. old dynabrade to assist in my decision.

Can anyone provide words of wisdom?

Thanks!

Jason

Hey Jason,

I have both but have only used the new Dynabrade once briefly so far, I need to do some more testing with it and was going to hold off on posting until I had more time with it. Having said that, on the Random orbit setting, the orbit on it is very "tight" and using my Flex 3403 turned all the way up to 3700 rpms, I could stop the spinning rotation but not the orbit if that makes sense, kind of like an air sander. It wasn't doing the correction I was hoping for so I did switch it to the rotary setting and that's where this attachment has the advantage, it has the action more like a true rotary for correcting. I would say with this attachment you would want to do the rotary and then switch over to the RO setting and make a couple of passes to remove any hologramming you incured. I ended up taking it off and going back to the previous version for the RO correction work with the purple foamed wool pad.

Hope that helps a little, I will post more when I have more time with it to be fair, but at this point, I am disappointed in the RO ability.

Tom

P.S. if you have or get one of these, dont forget to crank the rpm's back on the rotary before using the rotary setting, that would not be pretty!

Hmm... overall sounds like a pass on the new one then. Doesn't fit the style of buffing a lot of us are doing these days. Thanks for the update Tom.

Whoever does have further intrest in it... It works like traditional body shop air d/a sander for buffing. with the dual function switch. high rpms and orbit.

Meaning it works well with a variable speed grinder...I'm still trying to get a small vid on this to demonstrate- "I have been through hell with www.northerntoolequipment.com". Their customer service is hopeless at getting things right. I have no idea when my order will show up. But untill then, thats where it rests

I love my 61375 dynabrade RO head on my two makita's. Sensational accessory.

Am ordering the 61385 switchable RO head that goes from rotary to RO with a flick of the switch.

have been playing around with fitting different sized plates on it from 5 to 8 inch. think a 4 3/4 inch is as low as I'd go on the 75 or 85

The 61318 is only 5mm so not as good for correcting, killer for sanding and finishing I'd bet. Also getting the 10393 dynabrade kit for machine denibbing and palm sized rotary buffing very shortly

Thanks a lot Tom!

got a chance to test out a 61385 dual action forced rotation and random orbital dynabrade head two days ago. at 3 to 6 its sensational for all paint correction and regular polishing work. a little heavy when doing the doors but on the other panels its dynamite

first test was in forced rotation mode at 3 then I cranked it to 4, 5 and 6 just for the hell of it on a test panel. six is a little much but might make for good orange peel remover with wool or velvet/denim
