C. Charles Hahn said:I too am anxious to hear feedback on the new one, but the older one is definitely worth it.
hacadacalopolis said:For the older dynabrade attachment users; Does the random orbital kit need the rotary's highest RPM's to provide optimal paint corrective ability!?
I just got the 61318 in. Was polishing down a hood with dewalt 849x with 3500rpm. OK, so After doing so, I immediately grabbed pc7424 and did a pass on the hood with STRONGER, FASTER paint correction. WHAT?
Now im thinking by looking at this device- is that it has to work well with a variable high speed grinder? Dammit, i knew i wasnt gonna be satisfied!
Opinions Plz
C. Charles Hahn said:You're forgetting about the other factor than speed/OPMs: the stroke length. A PC/PCXP or similar have a 5/16" stroke. The older Dynabrade head has a 3/4" stroke. The new 61318 has a 3/8" stroke.
By the same token, I think the 3/8" stroke at a lower speed might allow you to finish down better (less DA haze) on super soft clears. That's probably why the new head locks into a true rotary mode, with the intent being you do the majority of correction in rotary mode, then switch to the DA for your final step(s).
So to get the same heavy correction ability out of a 3/8" stroke DA you'd probably need a higher OPM.
Just my best guess anyway.
hacadacalopolis said:Ok, yeah i get you,but the size of movement in my stroke wasnt my concern. It was pad rotation and strength.
I took another gag with an old(but good) makita grinder from a neighbr and the amount of correction i noticed made my night ,just making another machine to continuously invest in. AHhh
C. Charles Hahn said:What do you mean by "my stroke"? Stroke length has nothing to do with the operator, it's the design of the tool itself.
Were you seeing the pad stalling out with your 849X?
Hmm.... what speed was the grinder spinning at?
lostdaytomorrow said:Anyone comment on if I should get the Dewalt 849x and Dynabrade or a new GG DA? I have a 7424 (original, non-XP), and it just is way too slow for me, and I use 4" LC Orange pads and M105... Just too dang slowwwwww.
Thinking of either getting a Griot's DA or a rotary and dynabrade....
