Drying Towel Comparo: CMA vs. GG

In this comparison, I have put the Griots Garage Micro Fiber Drying Towel up against CMA's Big Blue .

Let me start out by saying both towels turned out to be excellent. The Griots was slightly larger and had these hand pockets sewn into each end. I did not find the pockets useful for holding, but liked the extra absorbancy they add by making it two layers thick.

For the test vehicle, I used a 2000 Mercedes ML430 which had absolutely no wax or protection on the paint. The water after the wash just puddled on the hood in one large sheet.

I placed both towels side by side and patted them to see how much water they would absorb. (you can see the Griots Towel's hand pockets)

The towels seemed to pick up an equivalent amount of water.

Note: Had the car beaded and I was able to sheet the water, the towels would have both performed better in this "pat test". imo

In closing, I found both towels to be equivalent in doing their duty. Neither linted, they were both able to dry half of the car and still be hardly wet. The thickness and softness seems the same. They both have the same waffle texture.

I personally would buy either towel. But my final nod has to go to the griots for its larger size and hand pockets. Even if I never put my hands in those pockets, the material is there to absorb more water.

Prices:

Griots Yellow: 26.95

CMA Big Blue: 24.95

Has anyone taken a close look at the Groit's towel? Looks from the photos the towel is simply folded over and stiched in that 'pocket' area. Does it look like the stiching can be removed where the towel forms those pockets? Perhaps this can open the towel up for more uniform surface area. Just a thought.
