Do you find spray waxes "useless"?

AW it so easy to use it's scary; even my wife uses it. I do sometimes get streaking with OCW in high humidity.

+1

These are the only two spray waxes I use, OCW is going strong at 2 months so far, I have seen about a month, maybe a bit more out of AW. OCW does streak sometimes, I don't even think you can *try* to get AW to streak.

I find the price of super detailers more than spray waxes.

I apply spray waxes more like a wax (use an applicator to spread, then wipe) but it does not seem much different than say Optimum's Gloss Enhancing Detailer but slicker and more durable. Mothers FX is nice too.

I really put spray waxes in the glaze category.

Hi,

I prefer " Optimum spray wax ". Because i tried most of the spray waxes but i found this one as the ultimate. Had you tried it ?

Regards,

Razor

I like OCW, but I too get streaking some times. It's hard to avoid humidity here.

What's the solution to remove the streaking, and what level of humidity should I stop?

Never used any OTC spray wax. I buy mine in 5 gallon concetrates and then dilute it down to about 10:1. I think they are about useless in the means of adding any signifigant protection but man do they save a buttload of time on the drying. I use them constantly on any non-corrective work.

I use spray waxes /QDs all the time . My car looks great all the time,. I never have problems with streaking. Spray waxes/QDs I use that dont streak are as follows- Megs UQD and UQW, Mothers FX spray , Eagle One Spray and Shine, Turtle Platinum Spray [cant find anymore] , DG F C n Shine and Aqua Wax , Awesome Mist [a local pro. product], and of course Poorboys Spray n Wipe.

A good spray wax such as Duragloss AW or Zaino Z8 will derfinitely add protection over an existing product. Not useless by any stretch.

Megs QW requires several minutes of drying time before wiping off. If you wipe off too early it may streak (as you discovered).

If you choose Megs UQW you still need it to haze before wiping, but may only take 1 min.

I find the easiest spray waxes I've tried are Mothers FX and Reflections. They work like a QD - spray on, then wipe off. No drying time required, and they look professional. My fave is Reflections spray wax - more carnauba look and deeper shine.

Been using OCW and AW for a couple/few years now and really have found using them during/after drying to add substantial protection to your base protection.

No brainer products, easy on, easy off.....Both are hybrid products, so if your getting streaking you may not be shaking enough throughout the application process.

as alfisti said. megs QW is supposed to be allowed to dry, then wiped off. which completley defeats the purpose of a spray wax to me, if i wanted to wait, id just use a normal wax. but spray waxes on the other hand, like AW, and UQW (which are probably my favorites) get put on my car probably once a week.. i usually wash, then dry, then spray wax, most often with uqw... eagle ones nano wax, and wioe and shine are both good too, so is FX (which says it can be used as a qd or spray wax, but i only used it as a spray wax. my favorite use for spray waxes is for wheels though! i clean my wheels, then use a spray wax, which takes all of a minute or 2 for my fairly intricate wheels.. spray waxes might be my most used type of product.. i like to spray one spray per pannel (2 or 3 for a hood roof or trunk though) right on the pannel, then wipe with a microfiber until almost dry, then flip and wipe down with the dry side. sorry my response is so long.

Does anyone know where Presta Malco Showroom Shine comes into play here? I've been told that it performs similar to Megs M34 or Megs Last Touch.

But both of those Megs two products have different capabilities. Megs34 is supposedly body shop safe. Unlike Last Touch.

So, which is Presta Malco Showroom Shine comparable to?

I use OCW or Pinnacle Souveran Liquid Spray Wax. Both don't streak and give added boost to my carnauba after a wash. I don't have a problem with streaking. I apply liberally, buff with the dry side of a mf, and just out of habit, I make sure to keep shaking the bottle in between sprayings. I find them more useful than a quick detailer. I relegate those to claying now.

Not true, UQW "flash drys". What you do is wipe it around with a high quality MF and immediately turn it around and wipe off all the remaining residue. Allowing it to haze or spraying it on too heavily will cause streaking/remaining residue.

I love UQW, I wish Meguiar's would sell it in gallon sizes! It is so easy to use, I generally apply it after ever other wash. It is so easy to use, has the most impressive water repelling qualities.

I don't agree. If it's warm it may *flash* dry, but if it's cool it's best to allow it to haze for a short time. Allowing it to haze longer shouldn't cause issues.

Unlike Mothers spray waxes which *must* be removed like a QD. No hazing time allowed.

I've used Meg's UQW and it works great. Prime the pad / towel, spray on car and wipe it around. Do the whole car like that and when you're done, just wipe off - it would have dried by then.

It's fast - and I've never had streaking problems except when I didn't have a good coat of wax or sealant on beforehand. If you're streaking, it might be because your LSP is wearing off.

This is the best process. While you *can* spray and wipe-off immediately, it won't give you the best results. Remember that you can apply and wipe-off ANY protection product, be it NXT paste or #26. But the best results are obtained when allowed to haze first.

Note this point by Mike Phillips:

"I've double checked on this topic of using it like a quick detailer or letting it dry to a haze first and you can spray on, spread around and wipe off and you'll get great gloss and good protection. For best protection you want to let the product dry to a haze before removing."

Because it is a "booster wax" I wouldn't expect any long-term protection anyway. With NXT and #16 being so easy to apply already it would defeat the purpose, IMO, of it being a Quik Wax. NXT dries extremely quickly in a good climate with thin coats. It makes a spray wax almost redundant unless you are using it as a WOWO product.

I really like Aqua Wax. It couldn't be any easier to apply. I use it once a month or so. It doesn't take hardly five to ten minutes to do a whole vehicle and it really improves the looks.

I find them very useful.

Except UQW doesn't stain vinyl or rubber trim which can't be said for NXT or #16. So I don't need to be careful around my trim. This means I can wowo and work faster, as fast as a QD. With UQW I can do my whole SUV, paint, trim and glass in 10 minutes. NXT or #16 takes substantially longer and I have to be much more cautious around the trim. It's a fast maintenance item for me. Different strokes...:chuckle:
