Disgusted with Tire Shines

I am disgusted with tire dressings of all types, nothing lasts more than a day or 2 and if there is any rain forget it. Here is a list of the dressings I have tried, I am up for anger management suggestions and new dressings:

Meg's endurance

303

Trim Shine

Zaino

#40

Wet N Black

Meg's Accent

Showcar Blue

carbrite Purple Dress

Iwas told to use Lemon Pledge in the spray bottle, haven't gotten there yet?

I tell ya it is a dissapointing world for tire dressings, I don't care what the Guru's say. Hell I think #40 was the best to this point.:nixweiss

believe it or not, I've had good "durability" with endurance . . . tires appear semi-treated even after a wash, but it's not worth the splatter I get from megs endurance.

Anybody here anything about the coming eagle one tire wet with the built in applicator? Is it just the same tire wet?

i use EF Black Sapphire tire gel from CMA. It lasts me a good 3 weeks thorugh multiple rain storms and 2 washes (I scrub / redress every 3 weeks) The inital gloss is muted after a rain storm, but the dark matte look is still there. I get some sling but only because i have raised letters, on smooth tires i get no sling.

303 works for me, mostly due to the fact that I like a satin or less gloss on my tires. 303 makes the color rich, without the "bling". I actually don't like how 303 looks initially, but more after the gloss has died down a bit. But that's just me.

You will probably hate me for this, but 303 lasts about a month for me.

It keeps a real nice deep black look. Not super glossy, but you know that the tires arent neglected... they have something on there.

When I worked on a friends car and used 303, I wasnt as happy. I think that was because his tires were neglected, and they asorbed more of the 303... meaning I should have given them two or three coats to get really good results.

I dont know how this would work for you, since it looks like you have used a lot of stuff on them already.

TOL's Grape Dressing is a good one too. Wesley's Bleach White is a good scrub. Spray on and watch the dirt immediately fall off.

I have good luck with Meg. Endurance(the grape purple stuff). Lasted about 3 weeks last time I used it. Z16 isn't to bad either although I don't drive that car in the rain.

Meg's Endurance is an excellent choice. Lasts me more than a week -- which is when I normally wash and re-dress anyway. I also have Vinylex and 303 Protectant but haven't tried them yet for the tires because I'm happy with Meg's.

YMMV.

I've switched to water-based dressings.

Admittedly, the gloss doesn't last through puddles, washes, rain, etc. but even without the gloss, the tires stay black. (I've heard the brown is UV stuff that's supposed to be in your tires being "sucked out" by the petroleum distillates. Not good for the tires!)

So far I've been happy with the lack of browning from both Poorboy's Bold n Black and Auto Magic's water based dressing (Super Dress-it?).

Again, neither will stay glossy after exposure to water.

The browning is actually a common misconception.

Search for Tire Blooming on google, here's a small snippet from CMA about it. But I know there are bigger articles. I'm sure it's been discussed here too.

To protect against ozone and UV damage, a stabilizer molecule called a “competitive absorber is blended with the tire polymer. Competitive absorbers work by capturing and absorbing UV radiation and converting it to heat which is dissipated harmlessly. All tire manufacturers use the same competitive absorber, carbon black. This is why all tires are black...why tires are not available in designer colors.

These absorbers are sacrificial; they expend themselves in performing their function of changing UV to heat. As carbon black loses it’s ability to perform, it turns gray. This is one reason why black tires discolor as they age.

To protect from further ozone damage, tire manufacturers add a wax compound to their formulas. Tires flex when they are in motion, causing the wax molecules to migrate to the surface. This forms a protective barrier between the air (ozone and oxygen) and the tire polymer. In the tire trade this is called “blooming.

Edit: For what it's worth, I didn't much like PB B&B, not that it isn't a great product.. it just didn't give me the longevity I want/desire.

I have a 32oz bottle of the stuff if anyone would like to purchase it :D

Here's why I've switched to 303. http://www.303products.com/techinfo/tires1.htm

They have a wealth of information about the product on their website. So far it is holding up very well on my tires.

One of the statements made on their site, and it makes perfect sense to me: "Using the wrong vinyl "protectant" product is worse than using no vinyl treatment product at all!"

The best tyre (and wheel) cleaner in my experience is - believe it or not - Guru Test's choice, Eagle One A2Z (follow directions closely!). This is regardless of price - absolutely brilliant. :bow

As far as tyre protectants go - 303 and Mothers Duration will give you good value. :D

I use duragloss's tire shine.. the results i hear u guys describing w/ meg's is almost as good as my results.

i just washed my car last night, its been about 2 weeks and it still had shine on it, it was just a bit dusty. i degreased my tires to get it off but i didn't do it twice and i still had some on there this morning.. just shows how good it holds up through rain etc.

duragloss > all other tire shines :)

someone give it a try.. i think u'll be impressed

I wouldn't use Pledge on the tires, I tried it a long while ago, very disappointing, made the tires look more waxy than adding a sheen to htem, durability was also terrible :down :down
