Dirty Cloths: Wash together?

After detailing the car, you are left with dirty mitts and cloths that have all sorts of different stuff in them (polish, wax, soap, etc).

Is it ok to wash them all together at once in the laundry machine? They are all sonus cloths if that make any diff.

I have always thrown mine in the same load, to help save water and soap.

I've washed my:

Microfibers

Terry towels

Waffle Weave MF

Wheel clothes

Tire clothes

all in the same load and have never had a problem before.

i wash two different loads. one will be my good mf's (used on paint, glass, etc) and the other would be the grunge towels (jams, wheels/wells, engine, etc)...

4 loads is a bit excessive. Depending on how many towels I have I'll do between one and two loads. I don't split up my towels based on their use when washing. No point, they all come out clean.. or mostly clean.

Paint and glass towels one load. Wheels in another. The brake dust is ridiculous and its impossible to remove all the stains.

paint, glass, wax, polish towels go in one load

anything really dirty grimey and greasy such as wheel wells, tires, wheels etc go in a different

this has worked well

Anything really nasty gets washed separately, same as I do with household textiles and clothing.

Glass towels get washed separately as I don't want any linting from cross-contamination.

I usually presoak the nasty MF's with dawn before I throw them in with the rest of them. 1 gallon bucket full of water/dawn, rinse, wring out and throw them in with the rest of them. I know which ones go where though so after wash they stay seperate.

Doing 4 loads might actually cost more than buying new towels for the paint everytime.

i pre-soak the grimey towels in a bucket (i'll also spray some APC on them if really needed) and agitate as much dirt out as possible before washing them...

I wash all my microfibers together, but I use two wash cycles (the 2nd with Griot's microfiber cleaner) and two rinse cycles so they get really clean. I normally don't use microfiber cloths for really grimy areas, so they're never too bad before I wash them.

I always have a sink full of Dawn and warm water when I'm detailing. Everything grungy or full of wax gets prewashed in the sink, before they all go in the washer (one load).

As I mentioned here a few years prior, I don't launder wax/polish/APC towels in the same machines that I wash my clothes in. My children have allergies and every time I've washed contaminated wax/polish towel in there, they either get a rash or residue gets all over their darker colors. Water & wax don't mix too well (even in hot water) and there's always a nasty coating at the top of the washer housing. These waxes/polishes aren't too safe to breath, and I don't think it's good to mix with clothing.

When washing/drying, I wash cotton towels separate from MFs. I don't use MF's on anything other than clean paint. I use cotton towels on everything else.

This brings up a very good point. I never thought that the same washer I am putting these towels with chemicals on them, I put in my regular wash for work! So far, I haven't gotten any allergies or sickness from cross contamination. Can't be to healthy for us though.

I do a single load, all microfibers washed together with mf detergent. Haven't noticed any problems yet, and hope it stays that way! :nervous2:
