Detailing advice needed for a new car - Cleveland/Akron area

I just purchased a new car with carbon black metallic paint that I would like to have protected. I'm supposed to take ownership of the car later this week or early next week, depending on when it arrives. I read several posts on this board that recommend NOT letting the dealer do anything, and I agree. I have serious concerns with swirl marks and I know that black is probably the toughest color to deal with from a swirl perspective.

The dealer is pushing Xzilon, but I'm not interested. As many of you have said, "it sounds like snake oil". I was planning on having the car professionally detailed twice a year and not driving it in the winter. I have been told that regular wax is really only good for 30-60 days and if I wanted longer protection to look at a paint sealant. Is this true?

I want to find a true professional that knows what they are doing and someone that I can trust. I checked your Midwest Regional board, and found several posts asking the same question..."Anybody know of a quality detailer in the Cleveland/Akron area?". The best option listed was in Columbus and I'd rather deal with someone local. I'm not sure if the reason for the lack of responses was the fact of the Midwest board is near the bottom of this forum, so I figured I'm toss a post in this board.

So, does anyone know of a quality detailer in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton area? If not, how about recommendations on tracking one down? I was think of calling body shops in the area for their recommendations.

Thoughts?

Welcome to Autopia.

Body shops wont have a clue. :)

If there is anyway you can get over to Columbus, Todd Cooperider could apply a coating which will last much longer then even a sealant. But yes, sealants will last 4-6 months.

Welcome to Autopia! and Congratulations on the new car! Carbon Black Metallic? BMW 5 series?

You'll find yourself in company here at Autopia regarding swirl marks. Black is a tough color to deal with in that it will show dust, dirt, and swirl marks prevalently. You'll definitely want to refine proper wash technique to minimize any marring; especially so if you would like to wash your car outside of when you have a professional detail it for you.

Longevity and durability of a wax or sealant will depend on the conditions and on the product. Typically though, sealant will last longer than wax; so the answer to your question is, yes, it is true.

In your case, I would try and find someone that can apply Opti-Guard or Opti-Coat for you.

Again, welcome and congratulations!

Todd is with Esoteric Auto Detail, right? What can you tell me about his company and quality of work?

Given your climate and color of car, I'd thoroughly investigate Opticoat. Its everything Xzylion promises and more.
