Detailer Left Carpets Too Wet

Just had my Passat detailed yesterday. The carpets are still quite wet. I've tried running the heat with the AC, rubbing with towels even a hair dryer. The weather here will be dry and sunny today but rainy tomorrow. I'm worried what could happen if I don't get it completely dry today.

Any info is greaty appreciated.

Running the heat for a little bit is ok. But running it for too long will start to brown out your carpets and make them hard and brittle.

Personally.. I'd take the car back and issue a complaint with them and make them fix it. Tell them if they don't fix it properly (hence NOT just turn on the heater and let it run) that you will have to take matters into your own hands (i.e. bad word of out mouth, Bad reviews on their website if they have one, Better business beuru, etc etc etc) Force them to be the professional's they claim to be.

Can you actually use this inside your car?

Can you run them on your car's 12v battery, no. What I do is set one on the edge of the driver's seat and one on the edge of the passerger pointed to the floor and run an extension cord into the car (be careful to ensure the cord does not scratch the paint). Turn them on high and leave the windows open and check on them in an hour or so. If the front feels fairly dry, move them to the back seat and repeat. I would do this repeatedly till you are sure the carpet is dry. I sometimes leave them over night.

Take it back and tell them they need to get your carpets dry. This isn't something you should have to expend any time or money on yourself. It is their responsibility to deliver your car back to you with dry (or very nearly dry) carpets when the detail is finished.

If you go to Home Depot, Lowes, or Walmart's Home Improvement section you may fine some blowers similar to this

I have two of them and they can dry carpets pretty quickly.

I do the exact same thing and my carpets are always dry the next morning! :hifive:

I also refuse to detail an interior unless I can have the car overnight.

Just wondering...If I took it back to them what process would they have to remove the mositure? Or would they just do the same thing I'm doing?

they will use the fan process (lets hope). It is by far the easiest way to do it.

If you have a few extra fans lying around the house, just open your doors and get as much air movement as possible over the carpets. I agree to a point with the others to take it back, but if you have the equipment at your disposal just use the fans tonight when the vehicle is parked and never go back to that shop.

agree, fans are your best bet.

Take them out, bring them inside the house for two days, done. Keep the carpet on the inside of your car protected with old towels while your mats are out. CAUTION: Do not let lose towels on your floor get in the way of the brake or gas pedal, be very careful.

TAKE IT BACK TO THEM, why mess around doing it yourself, it is there issue. If they mess it up you have a case, if you intervene its your case.

Cheers,

First of all, a professional who knows what they are doing wouldn't return the car wet like that.

So, you are dealing with a non-professional. I would take it back to them and demand your money back. The water is doing more damage than you can see, especially if there are any chemicals remaining.

Take that money, and fine a professional with an extractor of at least 100psi and ask them to just get the water out. Very few shops have an interior dryer. If chemicals were left over from the shampoo (which I'm guessing they only used degreaser, which is bad too) you will get an oder soon.

To remove this oder, find a shop with a Ozone Generator. Make sure they are using an enzyme cleaner to remove the smell. These units take 30mins to 5hrs.

Yea, as others have said take it back, call them up, or whatever you have to do to get THEM to fix the problem.

This is all too typical of the tunnel wash's' 15 minute $19.99 "carpet shampooing." It does take time to properly clean and extract an interior.

How "wet"? Damp or is there water/cleaning fluid coming up when you push on the carpet? If the former, take the mats out, you can stick them in the trunk or garage & they'll dry in a day or two. The carper will also dry in a couple of days.

Why buy anything...especially a $50 blower to correct the detailer's issue. Just ask them to dry the carpets.
