Cut & Polish help

Hi guys, this is my first post here.

I have some cut and polish compound here that I plan to use, however reading the instructions has got me confused. The instructions are as follows:

Apply wax evenly over car surface with a soft cloth. Polish in small sections, e.g. half the bonnet. Buff with second cloth

Now the difference b/n polish and buff is confusing me.

1) Does 'polish' in small sections refer to apply the compound to the car? And buff refers to the elbow grease part?

2) When I apply the polish do I apply it with a great force in circular pattern? I have a foam applicator to do this!

I think you just confused me.

1) Does 'polish' in small sections refer to apply the compound to the car? And buff refers to the elbow grease part?

Yes for both

2) When I apply the polish do I apply it with a great force in circular pattern? I have a foam applicator to do this!

Never use any kind of force when dealing with your paint.

What kind of product is this? What are you trying to do? Depending on the problem you may not be able to do it by hand. Do you have any pics?

Hi,

I have a KITTEN 'cream cut and polish' tin. So the main question I have is after applying the compound to a small section of the paint, do I have to apply any force when buffing with an open weave cloth?

I haven't ever used that product, but I would assume the same tips would apply. Work the product into the paint then buff off, which is removing. You should apply enough pressure to remove what product is left on the surface and no more. When you are appling the product to the paint is when its doing most of the work. Depeding on what type of product this is you are probably going to follow up with some type of polish and then a LSP. Maybe someone else has used this and give you more info.
