Cry for help

I have a 1999 Mustang Cobra with 60,000 miles. I have been using the Megs 3 step system with outstanding results. Well, outstanding results for a regular person - not you guys or me.

Ok, the vertical panels (fenders, doors, etc) look great, but the trunk and hood have severe clear coat pitting. I suspect this car has been the victim of acid rain. Tonight, I used Turtle Wax rubbing and polishing compounds (liquid) with my PC on the hood and I can still see obvious pitting and spiderwebs under halogen light. What do you recommend? Should I buy something with a heavier cut, or turn it over to an expert with a rotary?

I take good care of this car and it has only seen 8,000 miles in the last 3 years. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Given the possibility of special problems (the etching), I'd probably say to take it to a (*good*) pro. Most acid-rain etching requires pretty serious work (I chickened out on removing it from my wife's car after aggressive rotary work didn't do it).

You'd probably do well to look into some other products to use with your PC (I recommend 1Z brand polishes, especially for people just getting into this stuff), but for now I'd try to find somebody who can get things squared away so that you can concentrate on getting the maintenance (wash/etc.) sorted out and not spend a lot of time/effort/money trying to do stuff that might be a bit much for you to tackle now.

Thanks for the advice. I think you are right - I need to let an experienced pro smooth it out, then I can handle the maintenance going forward.

Any recommendations on a pro in the DFW area?
