I agree. However, I notice that you and I have the same PS (Antec True Power Series) and processor (AMD Opteron). :xyxthumbs

to be truthfull I am not so sure about this dual rail antec psu i have. It barely fits the bill with the two 7900gt sc,co vid cards i run.

We are finding out that the dual rail psu's are the cause of lots of problems. The cure is seeming to be a much high amp single rail PSU something around 36-40 amps versus the dual rails 19-20 amps per rail.

that may not seem like a difference but here is the key. The way most dual rails are built is they will only allow the full 19 amps on the 2nd rail when the rail it is tied to maxed out. that rarely happens so the mb is under powered, hence the stability issues

on the operating system front I run xp pro 64 bit edition other wise known as server 2003. I love it it's alot quicker thann xp home or pro. I had this running in tripple boot for a while when i was getting it up and running.

Grouse: One thing I am not going to do is SLI (Not on this box, anyway). I prefer the single 7900 GT because it's sufficient for my basic needs at the moment.

Currently, I am running XP Pro (32 bit) on this rig and may run a test of Vista down the line.

Speaking of video cards, did you see the 7950s yet?

in total with the monitors about 3+k. the case the mb, the chip, vid cards, two 250 hdd. was about 2g everything else was a hold over from my previouse P4 3.0, which is down stairs.

For what you have, 3k isn't bad at all. My Dell XPS isn't anywhere near the machine, and was more than that!

Wish you lived nearby, I'd have you build my next one!!

seattle?

well I priced mine out on newegg and zipzoomfly. then i researched and refined. I can do the same process for you, but you'd have to tell me your budget and what you wanted to get with it in a priority scale.

I will certainly keep this in mind. I'm not ready for a new one just yet (just got my XPS six months ago), but will definitely look you up when I am. Thank you!

2 gigs of gigaram ddr 3200

and I traded the 7800's in for two 7900 gt's

After reading this thread makes me feel like I need a new rig. Granted, its almost 3 years old now and will still run anything I throw at it, but still, new parts are always fun. Really nice benchmarks Prinz, looks like it turned out well for you.

Prometheus, I still have some more "goodies" to get for it including:

500 GB WD SATA drive

2 750 GB Seagate SATA drives

StarTech PCI-E Firewire Card

Round IDE Cable for the CD-ROM and Floppy

Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Sound Card
