Brief run down as to the wax history of the car.



2008 Cobalt



Souveran in August

Collinite 845IW in September

2nd Collinite 845IW beginning of October



Fast forward to last night when I felt like testing the durability of whatever was left on the paint.



I foamed with Sunlight 4 ozs + 2 ozs of APC

*Water still beaded and sheeted



I decided to foam with Dawn 4 ozs

*Water still beading and sheeted



I then washed with Dawn with Grout Sponge

*No sign of beading lessening, sheeting just as quick as before.



I washed again with Dawn

*No change



I then drove to Sunoco for an acid bath

*Tested the water beading and sheeting again and no change.



Going to have to do a IPA wipe down to kill it.

I LOVE Collinite. I used 845 on a client's SUV a few weeks ago. They drove it during a week of heavy rain in the area, and it still looked freshly detailed after it dried. I also put it on my wife's daily driver, and it keeps the bird droppings she gets at work from etching.



I understand 476 is even more durable than 845, but I haven't used 476 on any daily drivers yet to compare.
 
I had 845 (2 coats) on a dark green van, it sat out in the sun for a year before the beading really started tapering off on the top panels.
 
Great thread. I Collinited (845) my wife's car last week, and I Collinited my own car today. 845 is such an easy wax to apply and remove. I do wear latex gloves, though. The stuff smells like it will burn through titanium. ;)



One day I will have to get the 915 ... one day. But I'm going to wait until I go through my bottle of 845. Given how little one uses with each waxing, that may take a few years.
 
Only way I was able to remove past Colli coats was to wash the dirt off with Dawn, then rub Dawn straight on to the panels. TAW didn't work with this method but straight soap did. After I rinsed it off and did it a couple times, it was as if it was barely ever there...



Might not be good but I'm OCD about keeping a fresh coat every month or so...

Might do even more than that ;)



Note that they say it's "not recommended for dark-colored clearcoat finishes"...and that's usually CYA-speak for "it's abrasive and it'll leave hazing".

I guess I won't be taking off my Collinite any time soon. :)

Eh..no real need to do it in most cases anyhow (not bashing eyezack87's approach; hey, whatever works for you is cool with me). I just lightly clay it with Sonus green and reapply as needed. Sorta surprising how long I can get by without a real paint cleaning.
 
Don't see a reason to strip it unless you're going to polish again anyway. Think Prime Strong takes it off? I'd assume so. Don't know how to tell, though.
 
Good to hear about the durability. I picked up a bottle of 845 (thought about getting 476s as well) a few weeks ago for my DD Ranger. It sits outside under a tree and next to sprinklers. I can't wait to get some of that 845 on there. I need to hit it with some M105 first though since the SS white paint is badly stained and oxidized. It's a beater and I never really cared for it, but I think it's time to make it look good again.

No worries bud. I just suggested mine since I do not like claying much. It doesn't interest me as much as washing or polishing lol :wavey
