Collinite Info & Pricing (long & wordy)

Livin' the good life
I checked with Collinite directly and got the following info from Mike in Collinite Customer Service:

"With the winter coming up I would recommend using our #476s Super Doublecoat Paste Wax. The #476s provides the best protection and durability.

The #845 is basically the liquid version of the #476s and is easier to apply and remove. You probably get 1-2 months more protection using the #476s.

Both products do contain petroleum distillates and they are pure waxes, not
cleaner/waxes. You can layer the coats of waxes, we usually recommend
waiting at least one hour in between applications.

I usually tell people to apply one coat in the spring, one in the summer and one in the fall, that should take care of things."

=====================================================

When I inquired about petroleum distillates and how difficult it was to take #476s off (I read it's tough if you follow instructions) he replied:

"If you apply the product in small sections at a time and begin to remove it
when you see it start to dry or come to a haze you shouldn't have a problem.

Cut the hood, roof or trunk in 4 squares, do one door at a time, etc. etc.
Both the #845 and #476s do contain solvent so it might do some light
cleaning if any.

Applying in layers will not effect the original layer applied. To completely remove the wax from the finish you would have to apply a prep-solv."

===================================================

So I checked around and this is the best price I found for #845 & #476s at
www.thebestwax.com $12.95 + shipping and it's in-stock.

David Richardson at TheBestWax.com told me this:

"Both 845 and 476 are NOT cleaner waxes. They are purely a top coat. They won't remove anything. Heck, I have even washed my car and missed a spot drying and figured the wax would clean the small water spot and it didn't, so I feel safe to say it won't hurt your Klasse Twins finish. I would guess that you are at more risk that the applicator will remove something than the Collinite wax. The only cleaner wax Collinite sells is #870 and I DON'T sell it on my site. It doesn't have the famed durability of 845 or 476 in my opinion.

Really the decision you need to make between 845 and 476 is effort.

845 is probably easier to work with since it is a liquid, but the trade off is that it doesn't last quite as long as 476 (which is a paste). But with 476 you have to work with it in sections. Apply to a fender then remove, half the hood, then remove, etc.

845 can be applied all over then removed where as 476 gets harder to remove the longer it stays on. I alternate between the 2 for personal use depending on my mood. Dont' get me wrong 476 is easy to work with too as long as you use it in sections. Plus 476 being a paste usually can coat many more vehicles compared to about 8-10 with the 845 liquid.

Sorry about the slow load up on the website. It has some flash on it that is probably not suited for dial-up."

I've read that this product has incredible durability and is detergent proof, perhaps doesn't look at good as Natty's, Souveran, s100, or p21s but, for those of us that have to face 4 seasons, it's all about durability for the next 4 to 5 months.

My order is in.

Advance Auto Parts sells #845 for $10.99. From what I have heard, most stores dont have it in stock but will order it for you for free. Or order online and its $10.99 plus shipping.

As for Collinite, I have only tried it twice and it provided great durability. Look was ok but nothing spectacular. I think it is better suited for doing it on people's cars (mainly family and friends) that dont wax as much as enthuhsiasts do. Therefore they will see the full effect of the durability. The fact that it lasts so long isnt that big of a factor for me because I will add a layer of something usually every few weeks if not more frequently.

Wow I'm surprised to hear it can be found at Advance. The one by me is crummy, guess that's why they don't have, I'll look again next time I'm around.

Thanks for the info, I never would have thought of checking Advanced AutoParts or AutoZone. Collinite didn't sound like an "off the shelf" product.

I'm looking for durability, not appearance. It could start snowing anytime after Halloween & it'll be too cold to do any surface maintenance other than the usual wand-washing when the temperature allows.

I'd go with s100 if I could count on getting a couple days in the upper 40's every now & then ....... but I can't so I've got to go with a product that may have to last the duration.

FWIW, it reads like the Advance Auto Parts stores may not have it in stock, but can order it for you.

charles: I walked-in/walked-out of AutoZone & did not see the product on the shelf. I did not ask a counterman if the product could be ordered.

Subsequently, I checked Autozone.com & searched for Collinite, there were no hits so I assumed Collinite is not stocked & could not be ordered.

NYV6Coupe i posted a responce on where i found some Collinite locally in the Collinite 476 thread before i seen this thread.

So here is the information i posted. I found #845 Collinite at CarQuest Auto Parts in Niagara Falls on Military road for $9.95. If you are looking for it i would suggest to go there and buy it. If you need directions on where it is at let me know or i can pick it up for you and we can meet somewhere.

Sorry, brain fade on my part. Should have said Advance Auto Parts, not Auto Zone. :doh

This link should get you to the Collinite at Advance Auto.

limited-liberty:

Never thought to look at CarQuest. I was in there months ago when I first joined DC, looking for Meg's products & the selection was very limited so I bought most of what I have on-line from DC sponsors & others.

thanks for offering but I already ordered #476s (paste) from thebestwax.com 'cause I read that the paste (#476s) will give longer protection than the liquid (#845).

Just have to make sure & take 476s off before it dries or I'll end up with a sore right arm, 845 comes off easier.

Got this info direct from Collinite, their distributor, some Autopia posts, and other detailing forums.

charles:

seems like I never think about Advanced AutoParts as a source 'cause AutoZone usually has what I need for less $$$. Shame on me for not looking at every local resource, including CarQuest.

Would of been glad to help. :bigups I am going to go and get a bottle of the #845 this weekend seeing that i am going to be doing a full detail to my car and want to use that for the winter months.

Okay Fedex Home Delivery just gave me my 476S and an actual sample of 845! Probably because it took a week to get to my doors even from PA to NC. Anyhow I'm happy and free shipping definitely rocks.

That's interesting. I got a reply to my email today and my 845 is on its way. Scheduled to be delivered a WEEK after it shipped. That's about what I would expect being on the west coast, but I would think NC would be a lot quicker. I guess if you like free shipping you just got to be patient. :whine

NYV6Coupe,

I hear you on durability. I was looking for the same thing myself but for this year Im just using Natty's.

Question tho. If you drive your vehicle on salted/calcium chloride snowy roads, does it even matter what you use? Would that not strip off most of your wax anyway? :dunno

jaguar:

don't know, but the Collinite rep said that their products are detergent proof so I think that has alot to say about durability.

Ordinary detergent (like Dawn) will strip off most waxes & sealants so whatever it is that Collinite has in BESIDES carnauba has got to give it an above average chance at standing up to winter salt.

That seems to make sense, but I am far from an expert on the subject. :lol

I will look forward to your post re:durability of Collinite in the spring of 05. :)

I just got a shipping quotation for collinite

2 #885 @ $16.75 ea = $ 33.50
UPS Shipping = $103.48
Total = $136.98

Shipping is really a killer,
:nono Maybe I'll try collinite in my next life:nono

chee:

ouch!!! Maybe Ranney at Pak-Shak will consider carrying Collinite product line. What shipper were they using? Seems like a small package like that could go USPS international.

Don't know exactly where you call home (Asia) but I checked the USPS website and they indicate a 3 lb. package can be sent to China for about $25 Airmail Parcel Post.

Maybe you should check with some different Collinite distributors. Check the Collinite website, there are quite a few West Coast distributors in California and British Columbia (Canada) and there's one vendor in Hawaii.
