Collinite 476S vs. 845

I have both. I reach for 476S more; I actually find it as easy to use (or easier) and the durability is (ime) much better than 845.

I used it (476s) yesterday for the first time on my wife's CR-V (silver) and I am not a huge fan of its application or removal. I think 845 is much easier to apply and remove, although at this point, I can't speak to the longevity.

If what some people say is true, I'm hoping to get at least six months out of this application, which brings me into March and out of the ugly season.

How did you apply/remove it? We may be doing something differently, because it's very easy for me. I use a damp foam applicator and apply to one panel, then immediately remove with a microfiber.

I tried three different ways to apply, but none like your method.

First... with my G110 and a 9006 pad (I actually tried this with two different approaches, neither very good).

Second... damp foam applicator and let is sit then removed it.

Third... dry terry applicator, let it sit and then removed it.

It wasn't horrendous to remove, it's just that I'm used to NXT 2.0, so I guess I'm a bit spoiled + I've realized that I just don't like paste waxes as compared to liquids.

When I did my wax test, I had a bunch of different paste waxes (Victoria Concours Red, Poor Boys Natty's Blue and others) and by in large I didn't like applying them. In any event, I really like 845 but if 476s gives me the longevity people claim, it'll be worth the added effort.

Or one really thick layer, it's just gonna be a pain to remove.

That won't work. All it will do is be PITA to remove and leave masses of residue to remove.

Two thin coats always leaves more protection than one coat of any thickness.

I second this...Applying it in thin layers is the way to go..Thick layers are neither recommended nor do they add more protection. The only thing they would add is the fact that they would be a pain to remove.

.. I used to let this stuff cure for 20 - 30 mins and you needed a belt sander to remove - - I sold my previous tin I was so discouraged with it...

IME if you apply it thin enough it'll buff off easily. I let mine set up for a long time with no issues. And yeah, use a damp applicator.

Tom (and Picus)- That's interesting, the instructions saying to buff before it dries. I used to do that but I found that the durability improved when I let it set up.

Try it the way I mentioned, I promise it's a lot easier. It still isn't as easy as NXT, but much easier than if you let the 476s dry.

Accumulator - I'll try letting it dry with a really thin layer and see how it goes. I've had it on my car (just one application the way I mentioned) for ~12 weeks now and it's going as strong as the day I put it on. That doesn't sound exciting, but I've yet to have any wax I own last that long on my car.

Do you think (your method) will have any impact on longevity?

I mean, the reason I bought it, is because I really want to see if I can get myself through an entire winter without another application. Thanks.

I just looked at the instructions on my older can of 885 and it also says to buff it off before it dries. Like you, I have always applied it to the whole car before removing, and I was never in a big hurry to start buffing either. I did the same thing this morning with Victoria's Red Wax, I applied it to the whole car with a red pad on my PC (very thin coat), let it sit for a while and it buffed off with a DF Towel like a dream.

I don't know. As I mentioned above I have not seen a hit on the durability yet, but I haven't been applying it like this for more than ~4 months or so. Right now on my car it's still going strong (applied in July). Normally that wouldn't be notable, but as I also mentioned I've yet to have a single LSP last more than 9-10 weeks on my car for whatever reason, that includes Zaino, Werkstatt, Jetseal, Vintage, Megs 16, Concorso, Concours, Destiny, Mystery, P21S 100%, Opti Seal, OCW...well, the list goes on.

So at this point I don't think it's effecting the durability, but I can't say for sure yet.

me too. 476 is simply amazing for durability. i've had'em all, and nothing will bead longer than 476....and it looks fairly decent too..

forget about looks, forget about ease of application, as far as longevity goes...476 is king

I put it on this past Saturday, but didn't get a chance to hit it with a second coat. Anyone see a problem with putting on a second coat tonight?

I was also contemplating topping it with some Meg's GC liquid wax, for looks. Any thoughts?
