Check this out, the end of detailing?

I'm an active member on Vwvortex.com which has it's own detailing forum... Fledling forum that it is, myself and a few others try to keep others from buying turtle wax etc...

I came a accross a post by a member ranting about a product called X-kote. It's supposed to be a type of coating (epoxy, acrylic, ?) that bonds to your car and "removes" swirls by effectively re-clearing your car (by hand no less...).

Personaly I can't buy it, it's just to "teflon-y". What do ya'll think?

P.s. my name on Vwvortex is "LostSheepSquadron"...

Vwvortex post...

VWvortex Forums: New detail product your going to flip over!!!

Sounds like a product that fills rather than removes. I see an "As Seen on TV" label in its future, and that's not a good thing.

...and apparently, NuFinish as well. Good job! :bigups

Look in the gallery at the before and after pics of the keyed door......all that from a product that takes "under an hour" to apply. Sweet!

Think of the time I'll now save in my detailing routine! Who wants a free PC and accessories?

I do, and this being your public "offer to sell" my acceptance is now legally binding you. I am looking forward to free PC and accessories :D

Did anybody notice one small "gotcha" of having to buy into program?

Yeah, noticed that too. If I could buy one application I would give it a try on a trashed used car.

I think this stuff is a load of crap. Take a look at the second page of the gallery on their website with oxidized cars. If this stuff is like a new clearcoat, how it the heck would it make oxidation disappear? I think they are just buffing out cars as best they can, and then this stuff is just filling in the tiny scratches.

I noticed these guys are from Canada, doesn't make me a proud Canadian right now :o . I call bull s#!^ on this one.

Reminds me of that clear coat in a bottle stuff that they used to sell on TV... crap can't remember the name but it came in a clear bottle and had a white foam applicator. Total junk!

I like how Jeremiah says he cant control the sun for the pics.

Has he never heard of a 1000W halogen light?

All this stuff seems to be is a heavy filler type glaze.

The website is shady as hell, the before and after pics are shady and the concept itself is shady.

well, I tried to access the site and my Zone Alarm Pro would not display images and also blocked a bunch of pop-ups. That's enough "legitimate" info for me.

Yeah This product is BS as advertised, Unless it has a bonding agents

that give a thin lair of clear coat and hides very fine swirls,

and I am sure if Jeramiah was honest he would mention that he polished the

car before with a heavy compound and then polished it for hazing and then

applied this stuff, I would have paid more attention to the product if it was working

in this manner.

For now it is load of crap and I will never apply it on 120K car nor

any car for that matter; plus since when dealers care for the cars after they are sold

and out of there inventory? Plus those dealers gave him contract for used cars not new.

He can sign as many contracts with them, it is still BS in my book.

Edit: Oh never mind, he the last Pic he took proved that he is a lair regarding this

and a person not to be trusted. Look at the first Pic he took in the second page,

where the sun is showing the scratches, and after shot where he is hiding the sun with

his own body.

what does he think people are stupid? What a dumb @$$.

Notice the blue front fender in the gallery on page 6? Look closely at the tire wear....Looks like someone drove 20,000 miles between those two pics.

(edit)OMG DaveB, that auto link header look up code is sexy. I just copied the url and pasted it. After it submitted the looked at the pages header and used that as the link for you to click!(end edit)

Scottwax, you should be the offical Autopian to ask for a sample. You can let them know about what you do and tell them that you will frankly document befor and after pics and your take of the product.

If they refuse then let them know that this is a sign the they do not stand up next to their product and they will be losing out on a score for future customers.

You think they'll care?

The title of this thread is "Check this out, the end of detailing?"

I think we all can agree that this stuff isn't going to do what it says, but even if it, or something else does, detailing would only end if our customers want it to. For those of us who work primarily on high end cars, we know that aside for the wayward enthusiast, these people do not want to invest the time or elbow grease to work (or much less wash) their own cars. Detailing only goes away when our customers want to do it themselves. I'd worry when this type of product actually works, but it would also have to clean wheels, dress tires, remove dings, tint windows, vacuum and get windows perfectly clean.

Anyone who's been doing this awhile has learned that the easy way is almost always the wrong way. People who want to have their cars detailed usually know this, otherwise they'd do it themselves.

Sorry for rambling. Just got up.

I can't remember that stuff on tv. Some acrylic polymer you put on with a dense sponge like applicator. English guy pushed it (maybe named John). I ran into two cars that had it on them. One was a year or two year old MB. Lines in it from application, trapped dirt and such. It was a beast to remove. Wonder if it has teflon in it ;)
