*Cheap* Steam Cleaner

So after blowing way too much cash on expensive wax and every other thing related to detailing, the wife has stemmed the tide of cash flowing from my wallet. I'm a man on a budget. :(

Ah well, if you look hard enough (and have good connections here on Autopia), you can still find the bargains.

Many thanks to Autopian Denzil for finding this buy. Looks to be a pretty decent steamer for the price. Certainly not something you'd want to use as a professional detailer, but for the hobbyist, it looks just right.

Walmart.com : SteamFast SteamMax Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner : Appliances

There are alot of places that carry this same steamer (some under different brands), but Wally has the best price found so far.

Hehe, so I'm under the assumption you made the purchase Supe? Considering that you made a post about it, I think I'll pick mine up tonight if I can or tomorrow morning.

Please let us know your review of the steamer and I'll try to do the same.

I bought a clothes steamer thing too for detailing.....but I'm not sure what to do with it or what to use it for. :)

Looks like a decent little steamer, I bought the Steam Mouse for about $75.00 some 8 years ago and believe it or not but it is still going strong. I don't use it everyday, but it has worked very well when I did need it and worth the price. I'm thinking of getting a more professional one here soon and shelf this one.

Seriously...

For those of us less informed, what would be examples of where you would use the steam cleaner (other than the engine)?

From that same site that Jon linked in his post, I believe the same model that's available at Wal-Mart is also available.

When you add it to your cart, the total comes out to $88.94 from MarBeck.com. In my area where tax is 8.25%, that's ultimately a $20 savings for me. Note though that these units are refurbished if you didn't catch the note at the bottom.

With that factor in mind, I believe I'll stick to purchasing mine from Wal-Mart. If I ever have any issues, I can just make an exchange. :)

Carpets, mats, leather, vinyl, a/c vents, door jambs, wheels... I've used my cheapie steamer for many things and have had good results.

So the steamer isn't too hard on things like carpet and leather?

That looks like an interesting little steamer... do you have any pics of the attachments you could share? Does the steam constantly come out or only when you push a button?

It's still undergoing Budgetary Review, but I think I'm wearing her down.

Rob, alot of pros use these things for cleaning pretty much the entire inside of the vehicle. Check out the "Steam This!" thread in the pro forum (too lazy to get a link right now) for some great pictures of how well leather cleans with the steamer.

Edit: here's the link...http://autopia.org/forum/professional-detailers/105306-steam.html

They're also great for cleaning inside the house... tile, sinks, bathtubs, showers... comes clean and completey disinfected with no chemicals.

Denzil, those are *refurbished* units. :) I'm going to get mine from Wally's, too. Well, when I get approval, of course. ;)

Here are some pictures of the attachments. This steamer puts out steam until it runs out. It does not have a button to stop & go like the pro steamers do. But if you plan your project and work steadily, you should be able to complete most jobs with one to two refills. I cleaned up the leather interior of a F-350 within two refills and it looked like new when finished. They also work great for some areas under the hood when your afraid to clean there with a hose.

I thought it came with the triangle head too? it shows it on the site, what gives wal-mart. I was gonna pick one up but now I'm thinking twice.

edit: it says it comes with 4 utility brushes, a scrub pad, and brass bbq grill brush. that pic doesn't match the description, now I'm even more confused.

I actually have use this shark one and it worked out good. Don't know how it compares to the more expensive ones.

I believe Jon is referring to the steamer that he linked at MarBeck for the picture of attachments he posted.
