*Cheap* replacement for CRSpotless

Alright, just got the chance to post this, I talked with John yesterday. Only ONE of there suppliers carry a cartridge this big (4.5x20) and it drop ships directly from there supplier. The cost of it is $55 wholesale....

To order this part you will need to call and speak to John at Custom Aquatic, there phone # is on there site. Just call and ask for John, tell him you are interested in the 4.5" x 20" DI Cartridge for $55 (thats what he quoted me on voice mail).

Enjoy fella's

Any new developments on this? It'd be nice if somebody put together a list of parts that are needed. I'm still confused at this point.

I'm looking for alternative drying method since paint on my car is pretty soft and it became swirled a lot. I'm planning on getting it polished/restored and use air dry method with DI water.

Should go long way towards keeping nice finish, IMO.

currently waiting on the weather to stay nice so I can hook up my spotless filter.....Its 58* right now but Its supposed to get down to below freezing soon again, and that wouldn't be good for the filter....

Come spring time, when there really is no threat to freezing temps and such (when the water warms up and I can wash without my hands freezing to death) I will post an update/review.

edit:

when my water gets cold my hands really hurt pretty bad.....makes winter washing very hard....

Same here, mine dry out so bad in cold and I can't stand using lotion too often. I washed the car couple times in 30F weather and it's no fun. At least the water was hot, though!

Will be waiting for you review!

I use dive gloves. 3mm are plenty to protect from cold water.

I do use warm water but I washed the car several times with temp in the low 30's upper 20's and I did not have a problem.

Actually I was doing a ONR wash yesterday in the garage(temp prob around 48-50) and I did it bare hands and it was indeed painfull.

Price went a bit up since they have a new version.

Henderson 3mm H2 Hyperstretch Titanium Gloves DG30N with reviews at scuba.com

Keep in mind they are insulating gloves not water proof.

Cheers

Nick

PS: I used SealSkinz Gloves before and they leaked after a few uses. So I returned them.

Sorry to resurrect this from the dead, but I'm VERY interested in putting together a system like this at the lowest possible price (I like the CR systems but if I can spend less, I would like to).

Have you ever put together a parts list with the appropriate vendors/suppliers?

Thanks a ton, this could go a long way to reducing my headaches dealing with drying a black car.

I use a company out of Orlando that drops me a set of DI tanks and about every 1100 to 1200 gallons of water produced with bringing a TDS from 550 down to 3. They charge me 134.00 with delivery each time. Easy for me.

Can you pm me or tell me the company in Orlando as that is by me. I want to do the same thing.

Hey guys,

I know its kind of an hold thread but I am searching for a DI system for my filthy water in my country. I got the TDS meter and last time I checked I had about 550PPM which is unbelievable.

I would like to CR Spotless system but wanted to know how can I make it more efficient by reducing the PPM to at least 300 and then give the CR Spotless an already filtered water so I would not have to replace resin every single week.

Using the CR Spotless at that PPM will produce me about 140 gallons so I really look for something that will make it for reasonable.

Eliran, your water is so bad you could try a water softener and a filter cartridge in front of the CRS system similar to what Autogeek sells:

Clear Inline Hose Filter Canister and Accessories

The positive side is the softener cartridges are rechargeable, the downside is I don't know if it will help your resin last longer or not.

At one time a few companies were selling the water softener filters as a "spot free" rinse, but many of us discovered that wasn't the case when we found they left faint white spots from the sodium.

Yeah I got terrible water and I really can feel the hardness.

I found this set which is dual bed resin and not mixed which make it available to recharge them.

Detail Perfection

And about those cartridge Autogeek sells, I dont think it takes the TDS down but would love to hear anyone's opinion.

I don't know what effect (if any) they would have on your TDS, but I thought if your water was that bad it might make a decent pre-filter.

I did mess around and make a water softener set-up like Autogeek sells, and then switched over to the same size dual resin filter. That size really limits my effective water flow. If I had it to do over again (and I might someday) I would have paid the price for the CR Spotless system and have been done with it.

With water as bad as yours I'd investigate renting DI tanks like PERFECTION1 does:

So you wouldnt recommend me to get the dual bed resin and just get the CR Spotless? I thought that even that the dual is a little more expensive (500$) I can recharge the resin again at least for the second time and save money on replacement.

Eliran, I don't know enough about that other system to say one way or the other. I'd sure hate to see you spend $500 and not be satisfied. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about both systems can give you an educated opinion.

I tend to think that for extreme conditions the large tanks that PERFECTION1 mentioned might be best way to go if they are available in your area.

Yeah that is a good idea but since I live in a country that we adversity of water and they just raised the water rates 50%+ so I dont know who would want to do me that favor and not charge huge amount of money.

I thought about buying RO but to throw 4-8 gallons of water in order to get 1 pure water is just stupid to do in a country that barely got rain for the last 5 years and we are in a drought situation so no water wasting.

Eliran, I would check out this more recent thread SuperBee created on the subject of recharging the CRS mixed bed resin:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-de...124990-re-charging-your-crspotless-resin.html

You might want to ask him for an update to see how it's working out.

As for the inline sediment and soft water filters Autogeek sells, I have them. ....I also have the CRS DIC-20 and use the AG units for washing & pre-filtration (for the DI filters during the final rinse). I was talking to jb1 recently in another thread and he suggested I test the AG filters with my TDS meter. The next time I change my DI resin I think I'm going to test the water from the tap and then with the filters to see the affect. ....making sure the soft water filter is freshly charged.

Thank you Kean!

I honestly dont think the TDS is going to change since it exchanges calcium and magnesium with sodium so you end up just replacing them and not eliminate them.

I wonder if those Autogeek's filter really that good for the money you pay or there is a better system for a better price.

....don't know if anyone cares, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the resin from Windows101 today. $95 per for a cubic foot. Shipping charges are pending but their $/time table puts it at about $40. ....~$140 is still a great deal if this stuff lasts as long as the CRS resin I got with my DIC-20. I will try to post back and let everyone know how it works out.

I'll be interested to hear how it works. I think I have one change of resin left and now that it's warming up, I'll be blowing through it. The one place I was going to order from jacked the price up so it's no longer a good deal. Please report back and let us know if this new resin works out.

....no problem, will do. btw, they shipped the product out and gave me the final quote. It came to $122 total. ....not a bad price if this resin is comparable to the CRS stuff.

I e-mailed them prior to placing the order asking this question and here was their reply:

<O:p
Yes, the THermax resin is essentially the same type of resin your system uses. CRSpotless doesn’t specify exactly what theirs is, but some of our customers buy it for their systems and they seem quite happy with it.

<O:pI suppose even if it doesn’t last nearly as long as the CRS replacement resin, it is still a better buy at about half the price. ….I’ll keep you posted.<O:p</O:p
